I have seen AR's with the integral handle cut off and the front sight post cut off... both with mixed results. A lot will depend on the finish work after the fact. Neither is a mod I would do but opinions vary.
Yes.
Edit: I have a Dremel drill press and a vice with an X-Y base, so you can use that as a "poor man's mill" with the cutoff tool. Less likely to slip and gouge the barrel.

Yep. Might take a while though... I just took the handguards off, and freehanded with a bench grinder until the lug was 'almost' gone... that's all I needed to clear my FF rail.
Die grinder works better than a dremel, but you knew that already... cut-off disks on the dremel setup usually suck arse.
Hmm, disfigure a working component, to attach a non-working one... me no like. But it's your gun. A dremel will be a PIA, use a angle grinder and a vice, dremel to clean it up.
I like the look of the fake can, can't remember the last time I had to do a bayo charge at the range or at work lol. I know the can does not work but I loves it
Yes. I used a dremel with a cut off wheel to remove one while making an XM177 clone, took about 10 minutes. I cut off less than I wanted the final profile to be and finished off with a file.
Forget what these guys say and do whatever makes you happy... you can always buy a new rifle if you #### it up too badly and then sell this one for more than retail on the EE for all the custom milling you had done on it!
