Will the classic magnums see a renaissance?

I have always had an interest in the 8mm Remington Magnum
One of my favorite hunting cartridges. Built mine on a trued Rem 700, 26 inch Shilen barrel. Pushes 220 gr Hornadys and Sierras to 3000 fps. 250 Woodleighs a little slower. Does everything my 340 Wby does, but cooler, lol. - dan

For no particular reason I have a real want for a 325wsm. Maybe because it's such an oddball caliber in NA? Plus I shoot 6mm (243win) and 7mm (7mm08) and 9mm (9mm para) so it feels like an 8mm mag is the perfect option to fill the "magnum moose gun" hole in my collection.

It's not quite a 8mm Rem Mag, but i used to see LH Brownings on the EE in 325wsm every few months... of course when I actually have the cash is when they dry up...

Then I'll have to add a 5mm rimfire to my Want List! Lol

I was on an 8mm kick for a while (hey, I was reading a lot of Charles Askins at the time, built or bought rifles in 8x57, 8x57 AI, 8mm-06, 8mm-06 AI, 8mm-08, 8x64, 8x68S, that 8 Rem Mag, a wildcat 8mm-375 H&H, and an 8mm-378 Wby. If the 325 wsm had existed then, I'm sure I would have jumped on it like a fat kid on a smartie. Woodchopper has one if memory serves, and he says good things. - dan

Oh, and the 5mm Rem Mag was a cool little rimfire. There was a kit to make it a small reloadable centerfire available at one time, and brass, but I haven't seen any for quite a while. Aquila makes ammo every few years. Like you at one point I decided I needed all the Rem Metric mags. The 5 rimfire, 6mm, 7mm, magnum version, 08 version, Express version, the "big eight", and the 6.5 Rem Mag. Ah, good times. - dan

You must have one hell of a gun room

Lol, I had a friend who had an 8mmMag many years ago when they were pretty new. After we played with it a bit, I remember commenting to him that it was very similar to my .340Bee...but not nearly as cool! :)

Different strokes...

My most used round for deer has been 338win but that was when I used to mostly hunt in Grizzly country. More recently I've been hunting in less bear likely country and have been using 308win and most recently 7.62x39. I also have a 300win but haven't used it in anger yet.

The new cartridges are excellent, but the good old 7mm mag and 300 Win magare built in great rifles and are affordable. Never understood why Winchester never chambered 300 H&H in there Alaskan rifle these days? Great feeding cartridge, new powders and bullets make it a great long range hunting cartridge! Making up an H&H on an old Sako trg-s this summer😉

Mine are 300 H&H, 375 H&H, 458 Win Mag.
I have a 416 Ruger in a Ruger Stainless Steel and synthetic stock and I'm very happy with it but I will have a 416 Rigby in something classic wood.

yes I do, 325WSM in a Browning X-Bolt, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation badged. Got it when WSS was going out of business. :) excellent price was had

I also have a Savage 110 in 300WM, a Ruger M77 in 7RM, a Savage 116 in 338WM and a Zastave Model X in 458WM, so no shortage of belted magnums.

the 8mm Mag has always intrigued me but I never bought one,

I do have a 9.3x62 but have not started loading up for that yet, and a 8x63mm that only has berdan cases.

so many guns so little time

When I had an 8x63 I made cases from 30-06. Like you Berdan cases were all I could find. - dan

Where do you find 250 gr. Woodleighs?? I've never been able to find anything heavier than 220 gr. Gamekings....

Years ago I inherited my grandparents pair of pre 64 .375’s, they give me such a smile when I use them, it’ll never change. I love my big bullets.

I hate the belts because they’re a liability regarding resizing.

The newer generation with the steep shoulder have very high pressures and short barrel life.

I would prefer to see longer non-belted ones without a severe Venturi effect to yage lower pressures and longer barrel life. But for that, it would yage a much longer action and more powder consumption. Users don’t want longer actions, and ammo producers don’t want to use more powder with less return on investment. And rifle manufacturers make money by selling new ones, not by making ones that last too long by.

The original old school ones performed well, no question. Everything had its pros and cons and I don’t think people like the cons the old ones had now

I’m not a a pros at reloading and certainly not at reloading belted magnums but never had any issues with my 458 win mag, and lots of friends reload 7 rem mag and 300 win mag without any issues!
