Ok so I took this from a guys posting on the tactical shotgun picture thread. Page 201.

Trijicon or similar quality sights and a new hi-vis follower and mag spring too I suppose...I guess you are also paying for the gun being done and ready out of the box from places like scattergun tech. No waiting, sourcing/ordering parts. Shipping bills etc. Whatever that aspect is worth to someone.

One thing that you don't see on the SGT/Wilson is the work put into it to make it absolutely reliable, under any circumstances. It won't misfeed, it won't choke on over sized Winchester White Box - it won't eff up for no particular reason at the worst possible moment. That's the majority of what you're paying for. Let's face it, any idiot can tack stuff on to a production shotgun, but not just anyone can actually improve the function of one. Wilson can, in the same way a skilled guy like Casey can. It's not about which pieces of plastic they fitted (although they DO actually fit them as opposed to bolting them up) it's about how much trust you can place in that shotgun to (in the case of the BP) put a bad guy down, in sandy conditions, with lowest bid ammo over an unknown range, right now - and continue to do so over the life of the firearm. I know we don't like to describe them this way, but these specialty shotguns are weapons, things that professionals bet their backsides on, and yes, that costs.

Yup, like DEA raid teams, and Anchorage PD's ERT. Recoil from a short barreled shotgun (DEA uses 14 inch 590's) can make the difference between hitting 1 armed bad guy and hitting both armed bad guys, especially with 3 inch magnum loads of buck or slug - hence the popularity of 5.56 rifles versus 30-06 rifles.

It's not a heavy gun, just put a standard VICAS on it - properly adjusted, it'll sit perfectly across your chest, muzzle down, stock near your shoulder, ready to roll.
What are you basing this on? I've checked out their site on numerous occasions over the years and I've never seen mention of fitting anything? Not saying they don't, but I've never seen them claim that they do anything other than install parts and refinish an Express. They're all cylinder bore as well, can't get Improved or Modified like you can with Police models.
There was a thread on arfcom that I found somewhat telling. A Wilson rep was repeatedly asked what work was done beside installing the parts and the refinish. He just kept listing the parts installed and the refinish, no mention of smoothing the action or internals whatsoever.
I've seen posts on the net where people claim to have examined these guns up close and have found no evidence of any fitting and the guns still retained MIM parts. I can't verify these reports simply repeating what I've heard.
Has anyone ever been told by Wilson that they do more than swap out some parts?
They're way too smooth out of the box to not be worked - no new Remington I've ever handled is as smooth as the SGT/Wilsons I've handled - mind you I've only handled 3 SG/Wilsons and 2 of those were original SGT guns before Wilson bought them out. As I originally said however, no semi-custom gun is as smooth as a full custom from a good smith - in the US they can't get the gunsmithing we can at anywhere near the same price. An example would be Vang Comp's complete guns which are a few hundred dollars more than the Wilson guns (in the US) but of course are Vang Comped and are still not pure custom guns. Looking at semi-custom guns sourced in Canada, things like a fully worked semi-production gun from S&J are a steal - a fully worked receiver for $600 is something that you won't get in the US.
