I inherited a 1973 RCMP 30-30 lever action never fired. A dealer told me it isn't worth much and to go ahead and use it.

What do you think?

There are so many commemoratives coming out of the woodworks now that winchester sold out. Every one seems to have one or two..unless it is in the original box with all the appropriate papers, the "collecting world" does not seem to recognize any of them. I have one and it shoots great like it was made to do. Not many "big profits" to be made anymore on these "saved" guns. Use it and enjoy....what enjoyment can you get from wallpaper???????

The RCMP/MP commemoratives are among the few that may actually have appreciated a bit. But yours is missing the box and papers, so its not one that a commemorative collector would really want. Up to you, but I don't think it would make much difference if you shot it.
I could never understand this collecting of commemoratives craze.

The MP serial number is worth slightly more, it was originally only sold to RCMP members and there were fewer of them made. The RCMP serial number was available to the public. If I need to shoot it I would, but if I was just shooting it to say that I shot it I doubt that I. jmtcw

it's not the commemeratives that command so much as the ones in"wierd" calibers and unusual factory features that command a big buck- that said, i'd give my eye-teeth to get my hands on a new condition NRA commemerative musket, if i could afford it

Personally, I don't like the Win Comms that are "gold"........ I do have three Comms 94's though... Legendary Lawmen trapper carbine, Bat Masterson carbine and Cowboy carbine. They are all "shooters".....

save it . get a beater 30-30 to shoot , it was made to look at and hang in a case. great gun to look at and talk about. pull the trigger once and thats it you have to clean it.

+1 on shooting it .
Seeing it was inherited it meant something to someone that YOU got this rifle , so keep it . period .
What you do with it is your choice but I'd shoot it .
You might want to try some of Hornady's new Leverution ammo , I bought some but have yet to use it - definately high in the LCF catagory .
YMMV
