I have an opportunity to grab a Win Mod 70 Ranger in 30-06 off a good friend who's switching calibers. Serial dates it between '91-'92. Has the standard iron sights associated with the Ranger model.

It does have some very light pitting on floor plate and an area about the size of 1/2 a dime under the barrel 2-3" from the end. Bolt & action are sound and cycle smoothly. Barrel twist is still looking crisp. Beech stock has seen some field time, but isn't beat to rat-sh**. Overall i'd rate it in Good shape.

Question is, what's it worth and is it worth grabbing as a backup? (the rifle, i'm aware the Cal is capable).

I would hazard a guess and say $500, if its a good friend you should know the "true" history of that rifle.

It has a chrome Molly barrel and reciever
22 inch barrel
1 in 10 rifleing
6 lbs

Should be a good shooter.

Had this Model 670 in .308 Win for awhile. Another good econo Win bolt rifle.

They are decent rifles but they were Winchester's econo-rifle of the day, cheap stock, some rust, no scope. I wouldn't pay over $300 for it.

They were indeed the "entry level" rifle of the day, but I'd go more like $400 for a very good example.

The real wood stock, and iron sights, are more than you'll get on current production "entry level" rifles.

Thanks for the replies. I've had my local shoppe look at it, as well as a few friends. Everyone seems to have said the same. Accurate, reliable and would make a good backup or small project rifle.

I had one a few years back, nothing fancy, but it was a solid reasonably accurate rifle. Like yours it was an 06 and would keep most loads inside an inch and a half at a hundred yrds ( 3 shots ) I gave it to a young friend with a young family to raise and needed a good basic rifle. He still has it ( and another little boy lol ) and I dont think he'd part with it for anything.

Price wise, for one in good shape, I'd go $400 .As Northman says , they are a far better rifle than most new entry level rifles being marketed today.
