Gentlemen, regarding the call-back of the Winchester model 100 firing pin, I recently replaced mine, and here are the steps involved in case anyone is curious about the procedure.

First, you call the "Winchester Model 100 recall hot line" and have your serial number checked to see if the pin has already been replaced. If yours has already been replaced, the serial number of your gun will be listed on their computer, if not, then you still have the old pin in your 100. The Winchester 100 recall hot line number is 1-800-852-5734.

Second, you remove the old firing pin from your model 100 and mail it to them in a box (don't mail the gun to them, just the firing pin only). Include the serial number of your gun, your return address, and phone number or e-mail address. Or you have your gunsmith do it for you. The address to send your firing pin to is;

Winchester
P.O. Box 10.,
Cottage Hills, IL 62018
U.S.A.
ATTN : 100 Pin Replacement.

Third, Winchester will send you the new pin with a new bushing and a check for $30 to help cover any gunsmith fees. It took about 4 weeks for my pin to arrive, and about another 4 weeks for the check. I think the check gets mailed out from a different branch of the company?

Anyhow that's it. The new pin is thicker in the center (I think it's for keeping the pin from flexing under stress). Here's some pictures.....

First the old pin.

Next are 3 pics of the new pin.

Hope this helps anyone curious about it.

Thanks Scanner. That kind of info with the amount of detail you provide is the sort of thing I love to tuck away for that time of need. G.

Scanner, did they mention if the recall was just for certain serial nos. or all model 100's in general? I have one in .308 and am not sure if it has been done as I am not the original owner.

They did not mention, but I believe the recall is for all the model 100's. If you call the phone number listed in my original post above, and give them the ser# of your gun, they will tell you if yours has been done by checking their computer system. Whenever the new firing pin is replaced on another model 100, Winchester ads that serial # to their computer for any future concerns if it's been changed or not.

The recall is for all 100's in 243 , 284 , 308 , You cannot buy a pin on the retail market until Winchester has a certain percentage done on the recall. If your new pin breaks , they will also replace it at no charge as long as the recall is ongoing. Bob

Another way to determine if your firing pin has been done is to pull the barrelled action out of the stock and try to rotate the firing pin. If it turns at all, halfway or 360 degrees, you still have the original pin. Bear in mind, if your firing pin has been battered in the bolt it may not turn, giving you a false indicator that it is the new style. I have done many of these warranty jobs and have found only one that this was the case.
