Personally I haven't and never will put steel through any of my 101's for fear of a ring bulge OR splitting the barrel webb. Imo the barrels are too thin, lead or the rich man's ammo (tungsten or bismuth) but I'm not rich so I'll just use other guns for steel. Still use the lead out of them for woodcock as the law still let's me and I'm not over water, wish I could do the same for doves.
I made the unfortunate mistake of firing steel through a pigeon grade 12ga 101 when steel first came out, i really had no clue what it would do, before i realized not too, I already had a noticeable bulge in one barrel. I was so mad at myself.....never fired a single round of steel since. well almost none , a few big 3 1/2 inch cigars out of a Benelli pump. Steel is good for alot of things, but being flung out the business end of a fine firearm is not one of them. I don't and will not shoot anything with it.
