the rifle in the title comes in .450 Marlin...but I'd rather have the .45-70.

from reading, the .45-70 can be loaded to the same performance/ballistics as the .450 Marlin in modern lever actions. the .45-70 also has readily available brass and should ammo and gun be separated on a hunting trip, .45-70 would have a much better chance of having stock at the local shop.

is there anything like the W94 Trails End Take Down in .45-70?

Winchester did a special run of 20” barreled deluxe model 1886s this year through Davidson in the US but they were not available here and were quite pricy.
I really wish they would make one in their 24” short rifle that was a takedown.

I could have sworn that Winchester made a takedown 1886 with a round barrel in the 20-24 inch range, years ago when the tang safety had recently come out. The safety turned me off a bit and I didn't pursue finding one; never saw one in person.

I'd love one for all the same reasons as Mr.F, as well as for the simple fact that I am a .45-70 fan. The .450...much like the tang safety...leaves me cold. As a close second choice, a takedown Marlin would grab my attention as well.

I just sold my win 94 450. Ammo was getting hard to find. Plus hornady does not make 350 grain anymore. The 325 gr has a shotened case because the flex tip is longer. They still snag a bit when chambering. Beautiful gun. I would have kept it if it ws 45-70

I think the rim of the 45/70 @ .608" is too large to work in a Model 94. That is why they went with 450 Marlin, .532" rim diameter. The receiver of the M94 is too narrow.
