From 1977, a NIB Winchester Cherokee 9422 for $1000, is it worth it? Is this more of a collectable gun than one you'd want to shoot alot?

I sold mine for $450. It was shot with though.

Was this a regular 9422 or one of the flashy commemorative ones built in a limited number? I've seen one of the commemorative ones listed as sold for over $1000 on an auction site.

None of the Winchester commemoratives are very sought after....

 It may be worth $1000 to someone but not me......seeing that they Winchester doesn't make 9422's anymore I'm just wonderring if someone is trying to cash in the fact....and, oooooo, look it's a 'Commerative' model, they're rarer ;).

There are so many commemorative Winchesters out there. thousands made in every name and event that comes along. To me they are just an engraved shooter, not worth anymore than the regular issues. I have one Lone Star that has depreciated in price as many more have appeared from the woodwork. It is unfired as of yet, but what a beautiful gun to take out deerhunting. So off it goes tomorrow for its maiden hunt. Just like it was meant to do, be shot and admired for what it is ...a superb rifle...not a wall hanger/profit maker....

I have had a # of commemoritives, the ones that I shot did not shoot as well as a standerd 94. They have a bit higher demand in 22, as do all of the non 30-30 rifles. I feel top price u could get is about 700 but I would not look at it for more than 500 AJ
