Winchester Model 12 Question

I'm following a Mdl 12 in 20ga , 28'' bl, vent. rib looks about 7/10
on auction .
Bet it goes for $1200

As far as value if someone offers you 300$ for and your wanting to sell it grab the cash and run
Sadly model 12 standard grades have little value
Off coarse there will be sales experts chiming in on this but i will list r samples
The last gun show i was at 1 month ago the fellow the fellow across from my tables had 4 12 ga model 12's standard grades you pic 300-325$ he did not sell one in fact no one even picked them up !
He also had 5 standard grade 16ga guns you pic 350$ he sol one

They were fine guns in their day but for most of my years gunsmithing (1967 and on) the Model 12 was highly over rated and over priced. Your experience at that gun show tells it like it is. It is extremely expensive to repair a well worn model 12 compared to a very worn Remington 870.
Collectors still over pay for clean ones... but that's what collectors do.

I am no expert and that's why I reached out. I am a rifle guy and shotguns have never done much for me, even my old Browning over/unders don't get me real excited. The Model 12's seem well made and functional and better quality than some of the pump junk produced today. I appreciate everyone's input.

There was half a dozen model 12s at the most recent Kidd Bros Auction but I didn't pay much attention to price. One went for under $400 but we'll used. Great auction BTW if you haven't checked it out.

Had a 32" think it was mid forties regular stock but had the matt rib .Sold it for $ 500 regret it now have not seen another in as nice a shape.

A lot of the guys who used and appreciated the quality Model 12 guns have passed on, or are older now.Most of the younger generation have not been around Model 12 guns or had a chance to use them and admire their quality .They mostly prefer the newer less quality guns that can use steel shot.

The fact that most old Model 12 guns were full choke and made when lead was legal,so not able to use steel shot ,has caused them to lose in popularity as well.

The fact that the gun has been out of production for 62 years is a factor also. Anyone who doubts the quality of pre 64 Winchester guns has not owned or used any of the gems. My collection is extensive and they are as sweet as it gets. The early Remington guns were well thought out solid pieces but don't hold a candle to the Winnys IMO ! Full choke was the bomb back in the day and like it or not steel shot still sucks!!!
