Winchester Model 71 ####

That 50 would woomp 'em good that's for sure but I cringe at the thought of canabalizing a 71 for the project. When you look at the production figures for the model 71 against any other of Winchesters lever guns it becomes apparent that they are one collectable unit.

Notwithstanding, nice cartridge, can we see what eats it ? I promise not to cry :(

Neck it up a bit, and it gets even ###ier:

Suck on that, Marlin Guide Gun! :)

The Perfect Cartridge for when they clone prehistoric, gigantic Cave Bears !cou:

I actually had the pleasure of shooting one.......a custom Browning 71 Carbine in 50 Alaskan !
That 50 cal 400+grain chunk of lead at 2000+ fps is quite snappy in a smaller levergun ;)

The .50 and .450 Alaskan are kinda the last word in lever power, there's quite a difference between messing up an original and a Brownchester Japaneeese '71.

I wouldn't mess up my 71 Deluxe for any price, but a couple Miroku 71s that I've played with shot amazingly well and were very well put together.
They would probably work well for conversion to something bigger.
As an aside, I have a Ruger #1 in 450/348 AI, its an awesome cartridge quite a bit more than a 45-70 and likely would not work as well in a 71 because it has a sharper shoulder than the 450 Alaskan.

Nice picture Conteau creek, clean looking rifle !
My Brother has a Win. 71 and a Browning 71, apparently the Browning is somewhat more accurate.
My 71 is fair to middlin', certainly won't win any benchrest matches... :)

I own a 1st year long tang Winchester 71 with a 2 digit serial # that I use for hunting and shooting for the last 20 yrs. She wears a factory bolt mounted peep that will shoot my 200gr cast loads into .5" groups all day long. I have owned several Browning 71's but none of them shot as well as the winny. She is the last rifle that will ever leave my collection. She has not been refinished in anyway. Nice Browning 71 Contaucreek

1/2" groups with cast bullets and peep sights is great. What distance?

They always have drawn a premium price for as long as I can remember. Most of them are in collections that never see the light of day or were used and abused and then given a new life in another cal. A buddy of mine took his worn out 71 and redid her into 50-110.

Nice yellowtips, very nice. Plus bolt mounted peep, two digit serial # and a long tang. A beauty to say the least. I had a similar model without some of the details of yours that I:redface:foolishly got rid of and then immediately regretted that deal. I finally found the deluxe in the pictures below and with the condition it was in I jumped on the opportunity to get it. A short while ago, I picked up a set of original detachable sling swivels. Not cheap.

For jacketed bullets, I have some of the easier to obtain Hornady 200gr, Barnes originals in 220gr & 250gr as well as a couple of boxes of old 200gr Winchester Silvertips. For cast, there are two I get from a friend locally. 230gr GC and a 262gr GC.

I haven't had it too long or used it in the field yet but hopefully this year and possibly start out on spring Bear.

Nice 71 Johnn. She will do an excellent job on a bear. Is she a long or short tang?

Here is some ammo #### including a box of rare Remington 150 grainers.

Really! That took at lot of practice and load developement and trying different casting techniques and bullet designs but she has won me a few turkeys and a few dollars at impromt shooting matches. Even Doug has shot her (cured him of ever wanting a 71 ;))
Currently I am using a mould I ordered in from Austrailia for her.

Mine is a short tang. H4831 picked up a box of 250gr Winchester Silvertip for me, same as the one you have pictured. At a gun show, I picked up a part box of the Remington 150's and from a shop in north central B.C., I purchased a couple boxes of present day Winchester factory 200gr Silvertips, like the gray Winchester you have pictured.

It is a lot cheaper to cast and reload for these beauties if you plan on shooting them alot. The componets can be hard to get here in Canada but grab them when you can. You won't regret it.
Now lets see some more 71 ####!
