Winchester Super X-1 trap

From new? They haven’t been made since 1978 so any you come across now if they have the original buffer will have dried out from aging so it’s highly recommended they be replaced prior to use. Even the two unfired traps I owned I changed out in case I decided to use them.

The gun would have been 17 years old if it was made on the last day of production the buffers not sure.

Interesting stuff.

We had them go in 50 ish shots with hunting loads.

Hunting loads has nothing to do with it. The buffers are old and dried out from sitting
Every super x1 I buy or sell has a new returnl spring & follower, buffer ,o-ring , extractor and spring min
Most I change all the hammer spring, install a chrome mag tube also if I still have any left if not a new stainless one and firing pin spring
Bullet proof after that
There are kits out there here is just one
Cheers

This kit contains the following:
1)NLG29SX1-Bolt Slide Buffer
1)USR56SX1-Cocking Handle
1)USR66SX1-Extractor
1)USR67SX1-Extractor Plunger

Hi
The year was 1976 according to winchester
Cheers

1976. A team of six trapshooters uses six Winchester Super X Model 1s to set a new world’s one-day record of 24,000 thrown targets, crushing the old mark by 9,000 targets.

3macs1, thank you for the date info. I met one of the members of the 6 person team(BA) at the Minute Man Club in Mass. a few times in the 2008 - 2014 time frame. At one event there, I missed the first bird out and finished with 99. Hard to forget days like that !! He was a member/director there. He truly was a great trap shooter. I have not shot trap since 2014......the year I became addicted to sporting clays !! I am an "old guy" so it is never too late to change games !! Have done so 3 times so far. I am guessing that as far as registered clay targets go.......skeet, trap and sporting ....if we added your totals with mine, it would be a pretty big number.

I had one a SX1 and really enjoyed it. I bought it back in 1998 for $200. Had the buffer go on me while bird hunting. Replaced it with neoprene and never had another issue. Easy fix. Beautiful gun, really wish I hadn’t let it go. Will continue to keep an eye out for another.

I’ve always wanted one . . .

The only regret you’ll have with an SX1 is if you take temporary leave of your faculties and sell it like I did! :bangHead:

If you buy one and it is not updated with a Wrights kit I would recommend purchasing the complete kit with the stainless mag tube. You’ll have the best gas auto you ever owned at that point.

I just came into a minty Super X-1 field grade

I don't think it's been used much.

Is there a source in Canada for the buffers?

Wrights won't reply to email, Brownells only has a complete kit and is out of stock, and I'm not sure that I trust Numrich not to be selling old OEM buffers

By chance does it use the same size O ring as the 1100/11-87?

Wrights is super great to deal with. Just pick up the phone and order what you need. You’ll have it within 10 days. Most shops would do well to offer as fast and friendly of service as Wright’s.
And no it does not use the same o-ring as a lemon hundred.
