Winchester Woes.....

just curious as to how are you planning to 'anchor" your bushing-flange piece to the bolt... silver solder, epoxy such as J-B Weld , a lock-tite product or some other?

My first thought if I were doing it, I would try J-B but not sure if the firing pin striking it from behind might break it loose. I have never silver soldered anything so am I correct in thinking that a thin flange ( anything slimmer than 80 or 90 thou) will probably deform or melt when trying to melt the solder??

I think the easiest thing to do is just make the "flange bushing" a flat disk, at 60/70 thou there is still (lots of) material left from the original bolt face for the pin to strike from behind & not worry about it striking the bushing & "fatiguing" a silver solder joint.

if recoil starts working away at the silver solder joint, then another would have to be made with the stepped flange and pin bushing so that it could also be pinned i.e. held captive much like the firing pin is (but without being able to move)

I have no doubt that you will persevere & make this work, your other threads & posts have demonstrated an incredible amount of patience, skill & stick=too-itness that few of use can compare too....but there may be an easier way for you... there is a fellow & his wife living in east central Ab. that specialize in old gun parts from the turn of the century ( he buys any guns he can find and tears them down & sells them by pieces at gun shows throughout the province. Misty's Gun Works from Castor Ab., pretty much assured he will have a bolt for your 92 that the f.p. hole isn't buggered. Bruce can be hard to get ahold of (sorry I cant find his # right now, google??) but there is a local gun show coming up in 10 days and I could have a look for you.

Thanks ! :)

yes, if you do find his # or see him at the show - let me know. kinda waffling on whether or not to replace the bolt still - there is a bit of a gap between the side of the bolt and the extractor - like it had been blown open at some point... the thing is that when I do get this thing shooting (i.e. figure out the barrel situation) the receiver will get case colour hardened and that gap as small as it is once seen can't be unseen :(
