Windham Weaponry SRC 7.62x39

I was quite impressed with mine as well, it has never yet failed me, I put a Bushnell 6x18 scope on it and plink away at 100yds with no problem at all. I think they are one of the better AR's out there at the moment.

No failure to feed or eject with the Questar 10 rd mags, but I did have 3 light primer strikes out of 40 rounds. Fired those 3 rounds again and they went off. I'm thinking I need a slightly heavier hammer spring or try some different ammo. XP hammer spring ordered.

A buddy has a Windham and it needed a mod to the firing pin to ensure reliable ignition. He took about .010" off the "front" of the collar on the firing pin to get enough protrusion.

I need to look into that. I can easily do that that mod.
What is the original thickness of the collar, so I know if it's been done or not.

No idea. If it's new rifle with ignition issues I'd be surprised if it's been done.

You may be able to purchase a modded pin from Brownells. There's a number of companies in the US that make one.

I don't think I need a firing pin mod just yet. Will try an XP Wolf hammer spring and if all else fails an extra firing pin to experiment on.

The Wolff XP is going to work. Used it on 2 different x39 AR's. It's a necessary mod for Romanian surplus.

Back on the range today, updated with trigger job, Magpul MOE grip and trigger guard. Much better. Fired another 60 rounds with only 2 misfires this time.

After I got home and cleaned her up I decided to rework an old NEA brake 1/2 x 28 made for 5.56. Opened her up on the lathe and cut 5/8 x24 threads, turned it around and bored out the muzzle end to accommodate .30 cal bullets. What I found when I bored it out for .30 was that the brake chambers were oversize in the bore for a 5.56, but seem to be more in spec for a .30. Now I know why it didn't have much effect on my old Norc 5.56. Will try it again at the range and see if this brake actually works.
BTW, I measured the bore when I took off the Birdcage FS and it miked .310".

Fired some groups @ 100yds. Here's the best one @ 2.75 " for 10 rounds of Romanian surplus. Was quite pleased with that for surplus and a Red Dot.

Are the misfires light strikes on the primer?

My Windham showed up and went to the range to zero it.
Had just enough time to zero @ 25 yds with the Razor Red Dot I had on hand and fired 40 rds of Romanian surplus.

First impressions, very nice finish on the entire rifle, trigger is very good out of the box. Crisp @ 7 lbs. After a good cleanup I did a trigger job and got it down to 4 lbs. I'm happy with that.
After figuring out it was hitting 3 feet low I got on paper finally and shot a couple of 3 round 1" groups @ 50 yds and had to leave the range. It looks like 2 MOA at least. I can live with that.

Will change out the stock and rail eventually as I can see this gun is a keeper. Magpul MOE grip on it now and feels right.

What have you guys done with the gas block picatinny sight? Cut it down to low profile or order a low pro gas block to mount your free float rail?
I'm going with a 15" Alpha rail most likely. Gun is sweet to shoot and will post pics later.

When my WW-15/47 arrived and I took it to the range I had 20% fail to fire rate with Norc. being a little better but Romanian absolutely atrocious, checked the firing pin and sure enough it was a standard 5.56 pin, contacted WW and they sent me enhanced pin right away. That resolved firing issues on Norinco but Romanian was still about 5% fail so I went back to WW and they have sent me XP hammer spring. I'm now at 100% firing rate but that XP resulted (predictably) in heavier trigger. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the trigger pull ? I didn't measure it but compared to my other guns, it is heavy but at the same time that XP spring is a must in that rifle. Ideas ???

That is my fear with the XP spring. Seems like the best scenario is not using Romanian surplus
