Winnipeg Hungry M14 Clinic Sat 04 Apr 2009 Debrief Here!

I welded / unitized my other M14's gas system this evening. Preheated the parts with a propane torch, then gave them a quick spot weld. Turned out quite nice in my opinion. A nice little button of a weld at 10 and 2 on the barrel band. However on both I did, the gas assembly becomes tighter on the barrel after unitizing, and it takes some tapping with a hammer to slid it on and off, instead of just falling off like it did before. I believe this is due to some slight distortion of the barrel band. Probably not a bad thing. No harm done to the gas cylinder, the piston still slides as smoothly as ever.

What time do we get started on Sat am? Edit: OK 9:00 am

Yep 9am.

Okay thanks for the -25 degree heads up. I'm hauling along my North Face Snowboard parka! Sure we are starting at 0900 but in all my last 3 of them (Barrie in Jan, Burlington in Feb, Ottawa in March), I arrived around 0800ish and then set up the classroom with my respected point men! :D

Yes after welding the unitized gas cylinder assy can be tight. In the past, I just took a circular file and smoothed off the insides of the gas cylinder ring (goes around the barrel).

Gotta get back to packing!

Yep we're working out access right now. There should be no problem getting in there early.

Aaw you said you respect us...

Supra or Fire, if someone can tell me on Friday during business hours about the plug situation, I can shoot over to Canadian tire and pick up a stove cord and make up an adapter. I used to have one lying around, but I have a feeling I threw it out back when I moved half a dozen years ago.

Don't worry about it Grizzly, I can pick up an assortment of stuff from one of our suppliers to cover adapting the recptacle to allow hookup of the welder. I will be calling one of the folks from the range to see if they can tell me what is avaiable.

Nah don't worry I will get together some goodies I get to buy them wholesale. I ordered a stove plug a 50 amp welders plug and some cabtire to make an extension cord. So we should be good to go. :D

renewing

Renewing at Selkirk is easy, I have to do it this weekend too. There are forms in a box on the south door, just fill one out and attach a cheque, the prices are on the form. Then just drop it in their mail slot. You may then shoot for the day and they will send you an updated membership in the mail. If I remember right single membership, non-restricted, is $65/year and restricted adds $35, family adds $10....memory close, but not perfect.
See you guys tomorrow.

- Memberships are mail in only.

- Forms are available on the site.

-If people give me money, i'll assume it's because you like me and use it to buy cool stuff.

- If you drop it in the door it will take longer to get to the handgun membership guy.

- Mailing is faster.

- Cheques that are NSF take longer to process.

- Where were you in December??

I'm really disappointed to report that I am forced to miss the clinic. Flood issues, a horrible fire at work and an overdue project completely preclude my attendance. :(

I hope you guys have a great clinic and learn lots from the Master.

Hungry it was great! I'm glad I attended and it was nice to meet some other fellows as well. Maybe with warmer weather we could meet at the range and try out the different chassis and optics combinations that members had. There were some nice setups.

Thanks Hungry for the workshop!

I just purchased my Norc and I thought the day was full a valuable stories and information. I enjoyed the camaraderie and the information. Can't wait till next year. Thanks.

WOW what a day. Thank you again Hungry for caring enough to come out and do this. The community needs a lot more people like you who are willing to be possative, and giving. The M14 was really simplified and a lot of good practical information passed on.

Lets hope one day we can all be able to give back like you have.

To all you guys who brought out your rifles of all types and hypes thank you very much. Special thanks go to PrarieMedic and Fire. Without you two this would have been much much more difficult. Thanks to Grizzlypeg for doing the welding. I hope to see you all again and soon.
