Hi guys, thought id throw just a couple photos from a successful hunt last week.

I've hunted high an low over Winter, Seen a lot of big Deer but didn't lower the boom on any.

Spring has arrived an the Big Stags are getting horny, chasing around a few does which are on Eustros.

I had a nice morning hunting some Private farm land, when this guy stepped out at 350ms

I checked him out briefly an decided it was worth getting a little closer an trying to get a shot at him

At 250 odd meters I could set up an had time to range the area where he was likely to pop out into a clearing, I had to wait about 20 minutes for it to feed along through the scrub until it stepped out..
at 230ms I let a 150gr Corelokt Rip... The report back was awesome! Thump.
The deer fell over an thrashed around a bit, I waited 15 minutes before making my way up the gulley to where the Deer was..... As I snuck around I look to where the animal should lay... an Found NOTHING!!

Ahhhh heck I thought!

All I found was flattened blackberrys an a bit of mud from his body, No blood... just running marks contouring across the hill.

I followed the running marks an eventually 60m away I found a speck of blood, The blood got a little thicker an bubbly So I figured a Lung was in trouble.
Another 50ms following marks I heard the shrub moving infront, so I backed out 10ms an go a better view!

All of a sudden a Hind burst out from the Wattles an right behind her , Was the Stag.... As they burst I let another Go into the stag an connected with a Neck shot, it was lights out an Game On!

Heres a photo of the big beast, he went 28 inches.

Absolutely wrapped to end winter on such a great note!

cheers

Hmm.. so your hunting season is actually at the same time as ours? Your deer rut in the spring rather than fall? Or is this a secondary season, or only for one species?

Interesting stuff! Nice looking deer... whatever type it is. How big is it? It looks about the size of a small North American Elk?

Yeah mate Australia aint got no 2 week season like there.. Sambar can be hunted year round an no bag limits. Most definatly the size of an Elk!
Snows up around 1000m, im livin at about 4-500m an huntinaround 7/800 Ms. ;)

Snow pushes them down for Winter, so the deer are a bit thicker but now Spring is here these Sambar kind of Rut, altho the Rut is from June thru October.

My son is callin me Big beard, he hasnt seen me with a beard before LOL!!

Are there not that many hunters...or are they just that plentiful...or maybe an invasive species that they want eliminated?

Its Australia mate... Its how we do it.

Protected Pest as we speak... Just as many hunters but these are not your whitetail behaviour deer... very very elusove an live in Tough Alpine country.

Most other deers have a season, depends which state your in.

Majority of hunters only hunt the cooler months an most other species everyone only hunts the rut when the deer are 'easy'.

Your welcome to spend time in our coubtry chasong them...its no behind wire game ranch #### here.. Wild and Free as you like!
Good luck to all the Hunters who are comin out with the smart remarks... keep 'huntin' in those Blinds.
