I wouldn’t be surprised if the root cause of most snapped pistons is that the gas block is no longer secure or not properly aligned. Once the gas block is out of alignment, the forces involved will snap that piston like a tooth pick. The other issue could be a piston rod that is bent or no longer true… either through use or manufacturing tolerances.

You can peen on the set screws on the gas block so it won’t back out.

That was defiantly the problem the first rod, the gas block screws shot loose.

So I torqued the screws down after applying red thread locker the second time, it’s still rock solid, and the rod still snapped after another 500 rounds.
