WK180-C range review. Update Post #2

Perfect. I won’t need 5 shots for shooting coyotes. I am going to try the 60 gr Nosler custom and see how they shoot. I sure hope mine comes soon.

More still to try.

Thanks for the review, looks promising.

Could you tell me what the approx distance from end of barrel threading to the front of the handguard?
Plus what is the OD of the barrel?

I'm thinking of making a faux suppressor on my lathe......

~7.1" bottom handguard to start of threads
0.738" OD of barrel.

Waiting for Wolvenine's answer to the Hornady Match 68gr issue... I hope they won't dismiss the issue with a "reloaded ammo" issue.

Sweet! Is it possible for you to weigh the bolt assembly? I want to deduce the weight of the receiver set by itself so I can pencil up a lightweight Recce build I'm doing of doing for this rifle.
Very pleased about the weight, that's very acceptable. My educated guess is 70 oz with the barrel assembly but without trigger unit or pistol grip, and 35 oz with the BCG and assorted receivers parts that you can't really swap out.

The BCG w/o handle is 11.7 ounces

Yes and that should be your first mod.

Darn, was hoping not to have to buy a trigger.... guess I'll take my old DD trigger out of my lonely spare AR lower (with no upper). Will leave the SSA-E in the DD M4V5.

Thank you sir! A 6" faux unit would look good.

Did you measure how far off the lands you are at 2.250"

Yes, SAAMI max is 2.260. Does not mean the Mag will deal with Max length or near it.....

I didn’t measure distance to the lands. The majority of of my guns like less if a jump to the lands. I just watch for pressure signs after every string.

You don't have to buy a trigger, there are tons of easy ways to improve a stock trigger. Not to insult anyone, but I chuckle every time someone spends 300+ bucks on a trigger for a plinker rifle or battle rifle. If you are intending to do precision shooting, competition shooting, or just have the cash to blow by all means go ahead, but I have never felt the need after breaking in or polishing a stock trigger. Usually I just re-set and pull the trigger (lower separated from upper and guide the hammer down with my hand) for a couple of hours while watching a movie, clean the components afterwards, and bam a smooth nice breaking trigger.

I'll just polish the sear a bit on the 180 trigger first and see how it works. After using a super nice 2-stage not sure I want to go back to a mil-spec gritty single with a load of pull.

Sure not going to spend another $350 on a trigger for it but an ALG ACT is 'only' $110..... need and want are two different things, lol

It’s going to take quia few movies to clean up that trigger...

The only trigger worse than that is a Kriss Vector. Even a stock Tavor is better.

Nah, it won't. I've done a fair share of the milspec triggers. The key is to disassemble and clean after playing with it, and maybe polish a bit depending... I just realized I sounded like a smart arse on my last post there, apologies. I just don't see the point if you can clean up the one you already have for free. Do what makes you happy!

Ok, so what I have gathered is it seems to like 60 gr bullets. It doesn't like the Hornady Match 68gr, the bullets got caught on the feed ramps 4-5 times in 9 rounds.
The average of groupings are in the 1.5 MOA range.

Your first mod should be a trigger, I call it a 4 stage trigger. It was like this every shot.:bangHead: I'm sure I could do better groupings with a nice single stage.

Nice shooting, I have an AR180B-2 and put in an ALG ACT nickel boron single stage and it's fantastic for a $100ish trigger. Highly recommend if you want to upgrade without spending $400

You can't expect a semi to cleanly feed any ammo you give it. This is exactly why so many people who bought a Modern Hunter as their first non restricted black rifle were disappointed. If you're handloading you can get around some issues by trying to vary the seating depth but with factory ammo you just try something else if it doesn't like a certain type. These rifles were never intended to shoot heavy match ammo. Don't forget that this rifle was actually designed in 1963 as a cheap and easy to produce battle rifle, There was never any intention of a DMR version or anything else relating to anything more than battle rifle accuracy with 55 grain ball ammo. Wolverines/Kodiak just made a slightly more modernized version, I doubt there was any tweaking of the actual internal dimensions with regard to feed angles to accommodate heavier projectiles.
As I expected the barrels are adequate but start stringing as they get warm, don't expect sub moa 5 shot groups unless you shoot really slowly or replace the barrel.

Looking good so far and seems to be a great value for $1000.

I don't find my Vector trigger to be all that bad and I've owned a Tavor and if this trigger is anything like one of those I'd say they must have intentionally screwed it up because the AR180 uses an AR trigger but with longer pins and I've owned more AR's than I can count and never had one even remotely close to being as bad as a Tavor trigger.
Don't forget that these rifles (Vector, AR180, Tavor, AR) were never designed to be match grade sniper rifles with crisp light triggers, they're supposed to have a heavy (safe) trigger pull.

My original AR180B-2 trigger started out pretty gritty and heavy and after about 1000 rounds it was pretty decent, I swapped in the ALG ACT simply because it was affordable and I wanted the trigger to be similar quality to my AR's and ACR. ALG is made by Geissele so quality is not an issue.

You can't really swap out much other than the barrel. Last I heard the barrel retention does not use an AR-15 barrel nut so even the forend is what you'll be using for your "build". Maybe one of the guys that has one in their hands now can verify the barrel retention method. I know they said it uses an AR-15 barrel extension but that doesn't mean barrel nut as well, I know that RWA stated that their rifle forend attachment method is not compatible with AR-15 forends that use a standard barrel nut.
Stock, pistol grip, barrel, trigger is about it as far as I know for AR compatibility. You may want to rethink using one of these as a base for a "build". Bolt and carrier are specific to the 180 so you're stuck with that and cartridges based on the 223 unless you get a new bolt custom made (I think RWA said they would be offering different bolts and different length op rods down the road once they get caught up on demand for their upper and parts kits).
My advice to anyone with one or thinking of getting one is to upgrade the trigger and or barrel if you want to, swap in your favorite pistol grip and stock and then just enjoy your rifle for what it is. Personally I wouldn't bother with the barrel either but if you want to drop $400+ on a barrel in hopes of gaining a little accuracy go for it.

I'm hoping they start hitting the EE for a discount and I can pick one up to drop my NR 300BLK barrel into.

So if the trigger is terrible what would be the “absolute best” 3-3.5 lb trigger a guy could put on it that is a drop in where is it available from?
