WK180 Design Improvement Mod

I thought a rubber buffer/bumper already existed in the aftermarket for the ar180b? I remember someone here talking about them way back when these rifles came to market, but can’t recall if someone tried one on a WK.
Inner tube patch could work well if it sticks good enough, and would be easy to trim to shape

I was just watching a video of the Brownells BRN-180 rifle.

On their version; That entire piece at the back of the upper is made of polymer.

I went again to test function. Worked 100% and held up fine however the foam rubber pads I was using are already showing indents. Likely not stiff enough. A Rubber pad would probably be best. Going to try and find another suitable material. I think the thickest you can go is about 1/8in. Thicker then that and ejection may be an issue.

Ideally 1/8 thick rubber with adhesive you could cover the whole plate with and trim to size.

Another idea I had was modifying the gas block to turn it down. I bough adjustable plugs for my Garand when I still had it. They had screws with tiny holes drilled in them you could change to vent some gas away. I wonder if you could tap somewhere with a setscrew to turn down the gas or add a vent. Will take a look. The issue with this gun ultimately is it is VERY overgassed. You need to reduce how hard the bolt is hitting the back either with less gas or buffers to add cushion.

Seems like a job for rubber Mastic tape, available from Home Depot. I used a double layer of Mastic tape on my receiver where the brass would hit when ejecting. After a couple of hundred rounds, there was no appreciable damage to the mastic tape, and nothing on the receiver obviously.

Great thread. My WK180C experience has been an extreme waste of time and money thus far.
If there were a version that worked from the factory, I trust many would pay the extra $$$.

Which version? I have been thinking of picking one up but hoping to get a mostly bug free version

The lemon I had was extremely over gassed.
Getting trigger slap and also had the indented impression from action rod plate into my receiver.

I really REALLY wish they had just done a straight stamped steel upper/lower 1 to 1 clone of the AR18 just semi auto proprietary lower. Same barrel profile and gas system etc

They went full retard and really f**ked up a brilliant, simple, cheaply produced Stoner design concept.

Not unlike the T97 abominations from modernizing/modifying an otherwise very solid design

Ah the things that could have been....

Hey Travis, can you expand a little on your T97 comment?
