Wk180c issues and problems

Great thread.

I've ran the Hera Mags and CPD RRA 10 round pistol mags both with no issues. Anyone try Pmags?

Dumb question from a newly acquired restricted license holder. I just got my Wk180 have not fired it yet. (going to do the breaking in probably this weekend). I understand you can fire 10 rounds from a pistol or and AR if you have your restricted. But this is non restricted. I've been seeing people firing 10 from this unit. How is this legal? Also where do you get these 10 round mags? Do you have to have your restricted to fire them?

Try thinking outside the small box. Not everyone hunts coyotes, not everyone feels the need to mag dump. There are plenty of other situations where more rounds is better. In fact, every situation, more rounds are better. If more was less, you would be walking around with a single shot or a muzzle loader. I bet you don't.

I had the pleasure of firing an AR down in Texas (also blowing stuff up with tannerite!) and it had a 30 round mag that was spectacular. It was like a gift that kept giving. I kept checking to see if I was empty but there were always more rounds. More is always better :)

I think you misunderstand the 10 round pistol mags concept. You can shoot Lar15 10 round pistol mags from any rifle that takes an AR style stanag mags. You can use the 10 round pistol mags because there were designed to be used in the AR15 pistol. Since the mag was designed as a pistol mag, it can legally have a 10 round capacity. It's the magazine that limits the number of rounds not the rifle. So regular AR15 30 round mags that were designed to be used in rifle can only have a capacity of 5 rounds. Hence they are pinned accordingly. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but it is the law. So buy ar styled pistol mags if you want to shoot 10. Other wise you will be limited to 5 round rifle magazines. They look and function the same, just labelled differently. Hope this convoluted explanation helps.

So to beat this concept to death, here is another example. The VZ58 rifles are limited to 5 round magazines by law. Now if someone created a VZ58 pistol and designed a new magazine specifically for the pistol version of this model, then it could legally have a capacity of 10 rounds. So these pistol magazines could be purchased and now used in a VZ58 rifle. With this magazine in a VZ58 rifle, you could legally shoot 10 rounds. I know there was talk of someone trying to do this, but I believe the RCMP was or did put a stop to it. Hope that explanation was better. So that is why you can use 10 round pistol magazines in the Ruger PC9 , and keltec Sub2000 pistol calibre carbines.

On the WK181-C thread, someone mentioned they hoped a U.S. pistol-sized variant mentioned in the Code of Arms Shot Show Video about the WK181-C would allow a 10 round AK-47 compatible, WK181-C pistol magazine labelled in Canada. I can't see Wolverine and Kodiak selling this variant in Canada, though, as submitting it for RCMP classification might risk causing the RCMP to name the whole WK "family" as restricted,or worse, prohibited.

It is awesome right up till the novelty wears off and it's just $15 worth of ammo in every magazine.
Something I wish we were free to enjoy here but not something I would bother with most days even if we could. I don't mind more practice changing magazines, makes you faster.

Next you need to try it full auto, superfun but it gets expensive really fast.

Thanks I get it now :) I thought it was the weapon itself that had the limitation. I'm sure they'll close this loophole eventually.

God forbid.. the rules in Canada are already strict enough. I'm still for classes for everyone but responsible and proven owners should have looser rules to do as they please.

Right its expensive. I remember when my box of .22lr's (500 rounds) were $10..

I was looking to buy this rifle and after reading all the small inconvenience, maybe it will be better to get something else for now.

I'm up to around 800 through one of my WK's and 400 through the other.

The barrel on my first had to get the chamber re reamed but other than that I've had zero issues.

I've seen other posts where people haven't been as lucky but based on MY experience I'd highly recommend the WK180-C.

To be fair, I think they have all the bugs resolved. I haven't seen any recent discussions or post of people experiencing any of the old problems with the latest batch of issued rifles.

It's a good product. Time and increased round counts will be the final deciding factor on whether this product will be a good go to war rifle.

I wasn't aware they had a working prototype for the 762x39 variant WK181-C. It looks pretty good. I especially like the galil type folding stock that the prototype is sporting in the video. The adapter plate was especially nice and refined. It did't look near as chunky as the one that came with my WK180C. I will be keeping my eyes out for that one.

I would be interested in purchasing just the upper and using AR styled 762x39 mags. No interest in using the AK-47 magazines and having to purchase another lower.

Personally, I think this roll (762x39 calibre) could be filled nicely for me with a VZ58. Good for them in producing the rifle and I hope they have great success with the US market as well.

A good go to war rifle? Seriously?

This is a budget-priced, utility-grade rifle for semi-auto fun use by recreational sport shooters, and it succeeds admirably in that role. It is not meant to "go to war" unless you are declaring war on coyotes and ground squirrels.

I liked mine very much as a fun gun, and sold it only because the novelty of this type of gun always wears off for me...but I had several hundred rounds of enjoyable shooting with it. If I "go to war" with a rifle like this, it will be right after I finish my Nascar career using my 12-year-old Honda Element.

With all the information I got here it give me a lot to think about. Will see what I decide to go with this year.

It all depends on your budget but for around $1000 these seem to be a good value. Buy new though, doesn't look like you save enough money in the used market to risk getting one with issues. The newest production rifles sound like they are working very well.

As I said earlier though, there is pretty much zero risk when buying from Wolverine, and Kodiak sounds like they are trying hard to match Wolverine's outstanding customer service. Even if you have issues at least you know you'll be taken care of not ignored and left twirling in the wind like dealing with N.Sylva

Yes will buy new. Was looking at the WK180-C and the JR Carbine. I know they are not the same caliber but was mostly looking for something fun to target practice. I know that 223 are a bit more expensive compare to 9 MM but since I'm reloading both it's a bit more affordable.
Still not sure yet what I will go with but it will be non restricted.

FX-9 is another good option in the $1000ish price range if you want to keep costs down and shoot 9mm

Early "Whiskey Kilo" (100-150 range) with a Bushnell 3-9x40 223 BDC scope on it.
Original Wylde chamber that just slightly marks the longest projectiles without grabbing them.
Just over 2 MOA with the crap Independence 5.56, worse with the green tips.
1.5 MOA with Hornady Steel Match.
Flawless function overall. Loves MFT and CPD pistol mags.
Not complainin'...
