Wolf/Antelope Rifle ... Success pics, post 126

Gonna be a neat gun. I have never convinced a wolf to come when I wanted them to even though we have them on our access. The ones I have happened to get a look at incidental to other activities are no fools. A mature wolf would be a real trophy. Most of the ones I have seen dead with bullet holes are very immature. Wait till you see one who's shoulder stands taller then the top strand of barbed wire! Should take a sec to sort out if you are looking at a whitetail or wolf. not a coyote or a wolf.

Here she is, pics finally.

Specs are Rem 700 action, with a double pinned recoil lug on a RKS "gain twist" barrel in 6.5-06. This is touched off by a timney trigger and all bedded into a Bell and Carlson Medalist. Gunsmithing by Accurate Action here in Red Deer (boss hogg on CGN, and a great guy to deal with) This is all aimed via a VX-II 4-12x40 in talley one peice rings.

I havent had the time to really push it for accuracy, but some break in loads showed promise, keeping 3 under a half inch at 100.I am going to work it over for accuracy, then send the glass to Korth for a target elevation knob, and am contemplating a metal finish, as well as bolt fluting, just to give it that "custom" look, and becasue i am not sure that i am sold on the stainless barrel on a blued reciever look.

That would look slick with all black metal in the tan stock...

I know you built this for wolf/antelope, but that there is a great all-around rifle, for anything walking on 4 legs...

Hey 220, let me know how much (and post a pic of) the target knobs when you get them done. I have the same scope and have wanted to get that done.

As for the stainless / blued, I think I would have it ceramakoted (?) all black. that barrel looks like a white wand hanging out there.

Good calibre choice.

i agree with the all black cerakote, there is a guy just west of me who does another coating as well, not sure what he calls it, but i guess it goes on alot thinner and is tougher. Might have to haul it out that way and chat him up a bit more.

I think the target knobs are around 100 bucks for elevation only when all said and done, but i will know more after i get the load of choce worked out and get some accurate numbers for them to work with trajectory wise.

A target knob that is matched with the balistics of my load of choice, i think it is a similar setup to the leupold canadian they came out with a while back, but custom tailored for your chosen load.

The price I got from Korth's to retro fit a scope with a CDS turret is $116.99 for the adjuster, and $49.99 for the engraved turret, plus tax and shipping of course.

I wouldn't bother trying to match up ballistics- minutes are minutes. Make up a drop chart sticker for the inside of the BC cover and go kill stuff.

This rig looks flat out great. What does she weigh all up?

I think you would be much happier if you put that rifle in my gun safe, it doesnt look right for you. Actually I dont think you will have any luck with that rifle it will never shoot. ;) looks awesome I am jealous.

You don't need a cheat sticker with the CDS.. It is quicker than any other turret system..
Also the turret has a zero stop on it..
Check it out..
Downside is that it is load and altitude specific, for that turret.. You can get another turret if you plan on hunting at a different altitude or use a different load/bullet..
