You have a lot of territory to cover up there. Wolves cover a lot of ground and you need to be able to as well. Winter is usually best as it means you can get around by sled, making scouting and getting into the right areas much easier. A combination of calling and bait is likely your best bet once you are in the right area. Long shots across lakes/floods aren't unlikely, so time at the range is well spent. My wolf experience is from 8 years living west of Thunder Bay to the MB border, but I suspect that much of the above should relate to your area. YMMV.
