Hey,
just getting into it.

Anyone have any good tips or places I can research some.

What works? what doesnt?

Let me know,

Jon

What part of the province are you in? I've found hunting coyotes in the south vs wolves in the north to be two very different hunts, partly due to the vastly different geography, and the size of the territory they cover.

You have a lot of territory to cover up there. Wolves cover a lot of ground and you need to be able to as well. Winter is usually best as it means you can get around by sled, making scouting and getting into the right areas much easier. A combination of calling and bait is likely your best bet once you are in the right area. Long shots across lakes/floods aren't unlikely, so time at the range is well spent. My wolf experience is from 8 years living west of Thunder Bay to the MB border, but I suspect that much of the above should relate to your area. YMMV.

I am also looking at going wolf hunting and have a whole whack of questions. Should I piggyback on jraab's thread or start a new one?

Piggyback those things.....throw down!

I am doing some ATV scouting....actually the plan is to down a moose then sit and wait once its dressed and gone.

going to be using my XCR6.8.......cannot wait!

Alright then, what is a good bait( a little late to ask since you've declared you intend to use moose innards). Also what would be a good calibre to use? I have a 6.5x55 and a &7.62x39 handy, would these do the job adequately, or should I go for something bigger/smaller.

22-250/50 grain v-max

I heard of a guy In Kapuskasing using dead livestock to bait them . I started playing around with calls last winter....they are difficult to find since they cover so much ground . I too have much to learn so lll get back at it late november, early december. If using calls its supposed to be best late January-early Feb during mating season.
