Wolf Hunting Rifle/Cal.

He is from Ontario.... legal here.... stupid but legal....

Years ago a friend had a Mini 14, if you could hit them, it would terminate a coyote impressively with some sort of FMJ that used to be bought in the US in plain 50 round boxes. So possibly not all FMJ have strong jackets.

Shooting FMJ ammo out of an inherintly innacurate firearm at coyotes is not my idea of humane hunting.... Although our yotes are much larger than your western variety.....

What I am saying is that the effect of that cheap FMJ was the same as with 55 grain softpoints.

That is from a VERY limited sample size, probably NOT an apple to apples comparison of FMJ's versus an appropriate hunting bullet and I do not believe that your premise can be replicated in medium testing or on game with any consistency, thus it is unfortunate that you have added your voice to the fringe "FMJ for hunting" group...

I do not concur.

The wolves I've shot with a 22-250 and 55gr varmint bullets died just as quickly as the ones I've shot with a 7-08 or 270.

I am not a fan of FMJs for anything larger than a squirrel.
Myself, I once used FMJs in the 222 on Saskatchewan jackrabbits.
just once & never ever again.......

It's interesting that sunray pursues this very poor mode of harvest.

Not ethat he didn't say he had actually ever done it.... based on many of his posts I seriously doubt if he actually hunts or shoots at all....

Maybe someone in a jurisdiction where FMJ are legal should test them in some sort of medium. I'd bet they are not all created equal.

I think their performance is pretty well documented. What your friend experienced is definitely outside the norm.

I've used FMJ's on wolf and coyote. Most would think they are a poor choice as they just "pencil" through, but my experience was that they often did just as much damage as regular soft points and more damage than some. I stopped using them as they weren't fur friendly. For coyotes, I like quick expanding/explosive bullets like the Vmax that don't exit and for wolf, the Barnes TSX is about the best I've come across.

right on, another sunray roast starting, hopefully! Good to see! I think he is most definitely an all star arm chair quarterback :D

Really? You mean FMJ's don't expand? :sok2

My response was in regards to this.
