Wolf Hunting

A pack of wolves absolutly f'd up my opener this wed. I was walking in to set up on a cutline for whitetail when I heard a pack start howling about a 1 k west of me. They quiet down and I figure they are gathering around a gut pile as I got a late start and judging by the amount of gunfire there's probably a few entrails to be had. a 1/2 hour later the forest around me is explodes with the sounds of large animals moving fast through bush and more howls. It took me a while but later I found out I had walked past a heard of 12 Elk that had bedded down in the thick stuff and the wolves were driving them around me for about a 20 minutes. There were no deer to be seen for the rest of the day and I don't think the wolves were sucessful. I'm going back in there in 07 to see if can't thin these dogs out a bit as they have become a real problem.

Been there before! However, for me if wolf season is open, I'm hunting them!

Be is sheep, elk, moose, deer..... when I see a wolf I get my game face on!

My theory is this:

The wolves are going to chase the game off... much more than a rifle shot will. This way I get to whack a wolf, save an ungulate.

The only way it gets any better is killing a wolf off of a gutpile you've created:dancingbanana:

Considering that a wolf accounts for at least one ungluate per month, that's' 12 "saved" ungulates for the year.

Wolves have been getting more plentiful here over the last several years, so I think it's worth whacking one if you have the chance.
