Wolf or 'yote?

Here's a question for you guys in the know. This beast was shot in northern Ontario. Wolf, coyote or hybrid? Opinions?

Looks like a fairly healthy coyote to me...

If it is a hybrid, it's a coyote/fox hybrid... Look at the snout...

Thanks all for the input. Now here's a head-scratcher, if you live in an area where the ministry says hunting wolves is a no-no, can you still shoot a yote? The locals in the Haliburton/Minden area are overrun with the things but the ministry says the WOLF population isn't yet viable (government vs. residents which means regulations vs. common sense). If my bud or a local shoot a yote, are they in violation of the law?

My advice here is never try to decide if something is legal or not by asking on the internet. Why on earth would you risk knowing the law because you listened to somebody on the internet?

Go find the legal authorities and ask the question. Get the answer in writing, if you can. But do NOT base what you do on legal advice from a forum.

Let me guess... taken near Minden?!?!?! Nice shot.

In that case, it's definitely a 'yote.... :D

In November, I saw a timberwolf that had been trapped in Temagami and looked like it could have been a hybrid.

So, if it turns out to be a hybrid, how does the MNR classify the animal? Good question for them.

Still, I say 'yote on this one.

Good luck - SD
