Wolves in Southern Ontario?

Senior, still looks very Coyote to this guy, though indeed large, think you missed this post below after the one you quoted. I had read about the Eastern Wolf DNA mixed into the Ontario Coyotes, good show and well done. :)

The only way I've used to differentiate wolves from coyotes is the width of the nose. This guys nose flared out to a point about as wide as the outside of his eyes where the nose meet the head, thats what I would call a wolf. I've shot a number that the nose basically met the head at the inside of the eyes, the biggest of these I've seen with the narrow nose is about 45lbs, those I call yotes or brush wolves.
I suppose with any sort of gene mixure it would be imposible to use anything to posatively identify any of them:cool:

I'm convinced, odd creatures you guys have out there... Just read more about DNA testing, in certain areas all the Coyotes tested had some wolf DNA.

I have no first hand experience with these hybrids, but the one distinct feature I've noticed between wolves and coyotes is that even a small wolf will have much longer legs and bigger paws than a monster coyote. On that picture, the paws seem to be coyote size, but again pictures can be very deceiving.

was that taken in deer season if not it was a illegal kill with 00 buck you cant go past #2 lead without deer hunting (or other big game) as your only allowed to carry one type of ammo in a big game season with a tag in hand

In the hunting with fmj thread, you quoted the ON regulations.
Go back and read them. Read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them. Then perhaps you will understand them.
During deer season, if hunting small game, you can only carry large shot if you have a deer licence.
Given the snow on the ground, it is very unlikely that this critter was killed during southern Ontario deer season. And even if it was, you have no way of knowing whether senior had a deer licence. And if it wasn't deer season, then shot size is not an issue.
Basically, you are wrong, and it was none of your business anyway.

The Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed it with DNA testing - there are populations of coyotes in Ontario that have wolf genes thrown into the mix.

The interesting thing is, our coyotes also behave more like wolves - hunting large prey in packs, and some howl so much like a wolf, like one fellow in our neighborhood ....:)

X2 our coyotes travel and hunt in packs. i still say you can tell the true grey wolves right off the bat as soon as you see them.

shotsize for small game can not be over #2 lead at any time unless your hunting big game in witch you cant carry any shot smaller then #1 buck(a few years ago i shot a skunk with a 12ga slug while deer hunting up north man was it a mess)

If you are hunting small game in an area where there is an open season for deer, moose, elk or black bear, you may not possess or use a rifle of greater muzzle energy than 400 ft-lbs or shells loaded with ball or with shot larger than No. 2 shot, unless you possess a valid licence to hunt deer, moose, elk or black bear as the case may be. When hunting deer, elk or moose, you may only use or carry the type of firearms allowed. this is not just for southern ont but all of ont

poching is every hunters business

You missed the first part... "In areas where there is an open season for deer bear moose..."... Perfectly legal to use buckshot for yotes any time of year... But if you are sitting during deer season withy buckshot in your gun you need a deer license..

Since your now implying I'm a poacher!

Here's a scenerio for you to figure out.
#1. I do have deer licence & do hunt deer, so that allows me to carry buckshot in deer season, if I so desire.
#2. I do have a wolf licence & do hunt wolves, so that allows me to carry buckshot when not in deer season if I so desire.
#3. No-where did I say what time of year it was.
#4. No-where did I even say I actually used buckshot.
#5. YES..I did actually use buckshot in that instance & it was legal to do so.
#6. NO...I do not live in one of the closed wolf hunting zones bordering Algonquin park.

If you still think I was "poching" feel free to call MNR or OPP, I'll give you my address....or STFU
