Wood vs Synthetic

The choice is all your my friend. I have seen both up close and personally I like the non traditional look of the Tikkas. I have 2 in synthetic and love them, accurate as hell and almost never get a cleaning!
The only issue I have with the walnut stock is they actually look cheaper than the synthetic. The stocks are virtually identical and in this case the synthetic looks better. If it was a nice Winchester, Browning Remington piece of walnut, well that's a different story, I, personally would still go with plastic but the choices would be more distinct.

A great gun regardless, enjoy.

I have a stainless synthetic that I use for hunting, which is great in the pouring rain and snow etc. and its nice to not have to worry about scratching it when walking through thick bush. But I have to be honest, I like the look of a nice wood stock so my next hunting rifle will be wood. So buy him one of each, so he will have the best of both worlds lol :D

laugh it up, but thats Mr. Pig to you :)

**edit:
i may have found a compromise:

Then I don't think you've handled a T3 Deluxe and there's no way you could have seen an older Tikka Premier, like my 7mm M658 Tikka!

i was thinking about this question myself .as i have 2 synthetic tikkas. im looking at another tikka in a laminate stainless model .caliber 22-250.with either a 3 to 9 scope or a 6.5 to 20 leupold.

My son's first fw rifles all had synthetic stocks, my feeling was he wouldn't take the same care as I do. Before our safari, I bought him a Sako 75 hunter as he kept telling me how much he hated the "plastic" stocks on his other rifles. Two weeks in Africa, a huge rub on the stock where he jammed it into a small space in the back of the hunting vehicle so it was easier to hang on to. Now the stock needs refninshing.

Synthetic all the way until they are signing the cheques. If they don't like that...as my Dad used to say to us " That will be one more thing for you to talk about with your therapist later in life"

I like the look and feel of wood, but when its -15 and wet outside plastic all the way! My new 30.06 is plastic and after 3 years of use it still looks new, my wood stocks are all in rough shape from being out in the field. Bush isn't very forgiving!

I like all the little dings and scratches on my wood stocked guns. They bring back memories of good times had in the bush. Plastic stocks are utilitarian and boring.

IMO you need a synthetic before you start collecting wood ones.

wood stocks are nice and i prefer them, but you really dont want to slug them through the crappiest weather or worst conditions. first have at least one cheap plastic stocked 'beater' gun that you can drag through mud and rain and snow without worry.
