Fake wear marks always look fake to my eye. What I do is to try my darnedest to preserve the item in mint condition, which causes the wear to set in twice as fast.

Probably meant citric acid.

CLR also works and can get it everywhere.

Seems to be my issue as well, but I like them to look good and as natural as possible for the older ones

I have tried aging new parts so they wouldn't look out of place on a gun that has some wear but it's difficult to simulate honest use.

Just use it. My CZ got missing finish from my wedding band, holster wear, bumps and scratches.

This was my half arse painted AR, that seen alot of use.

fake is fake. torn jeans on a construction worker means something else when on a millennial . it reflects on the owner, but you are free to convey any message you want.

OP, I'd suggest perhaps a decent krylon/rustoleum on the slide or frame that would wear with you anticipated use.

I tried to get the NEA to the same point by ya know . . . shooting it a bunch.

I just got to experience her when TVPP had it back in 2013 after the YYC Easter show. TVPP, his Tar21, and this AR were the reason I have fallen to his terrible black gun addiction. Haha

Throw it in the dishwasher. Doing so will give it a perfectly used look.

That only works with M14s.

Dry brush with any silver paint. Modellers have been doing it for decades.
