Seems to be my issue as well, but I like them to look good and as natural as possible for the older onesFake wear marks always look fake to my eye. What I do is to try my darnedest to preserve the item in mint condition, which causes the wear to set in twice as fast.

Just use it. My CZ got missing finish from my wedding band, holster wear, bumps and scratches.

Throw it in the dishwasher. Doing so will give it a perfectly used look.
I just got to experience her when TVPP had it back in 2013 after the YYC Easter show. TVPP, his Tar21, and this AR were the reason I have fallen to his terrible black gun addiction. Haha
