WORST range trip ever... broken gun with PICS!!

I had a 92F, serial# D40546Z, and I put 20,000 rounds through that gun and never had a problem with the locking block. I've owned several other Italian-made 92s and never had a problem with them either, although I've never gotten to that round count.

However I've seen several American-made 92FS pistols suffer from that part failing. I always thought it was something to do with the fracture toughness of the steel the American plant was using. The new design does help though.

I don't agree with Slavex that this part is designed to wear out. It's made of steel, the frame is made of aluminum, they both receive wear upon the gun firing, the frame should wear out long before the locking block does.

If Beretta USA are saying this part is designed to wear out, that's just a cop out, IMO.

I have had these break on all range guns, whether Italian or American made. Sometimes they really chew up the frame, but even so the frames outlast several of them. Slides crack quite often too, and I have a large collection of broken ones, in several cases the slide cracked before the lug failed. The brigadier slides were much better, and I don't know why they were discontinued.

I don't about that; plastic guns have metal locking blocks as well, but I don't think that means frames should go first (and no it doesn't mean plastic is tougher than steel). Areas of high stress brake first and it's often the locking block. I'd much rather replace the locking block than the entire barrel.

new 90two's have recountoured brigadier like slides...

The 90-twos have lighter slides than the Brigadiers.

Not so, this is a problem with older Berettas too. How old, I don't have an exact date but I know that it is within the past six years that this new and improved locking block has come out for Beretta.

That is true, but I've been seeing a lot more Tauruses breaking down than old Berettas...unless we're talking about the old Berettas and their broken slides...

No offence intended here timothy, but how can you hold one prior owner....fully responsible for an sysmetic firearm design flaw?

just curious....

This is a misunderstanding, please, read the entire thread. I knew when I bought the Taurus that the locking blocks go. Me getting screwed on the EE is from a totally unrelated matter. I am still to this day 100% happy with my purchase of the Taurus.

Okay...sorry...

It's totally fine, I understand it's a pain in the arse to read entire threads when you just hop to the end to catch the jist/the resolve of it. I do it myself all the time.

In regards to me leaving negative feedback for the vendor, I finally did, I gave him PLENTY of time to resolve the matter and frankly, I've been lied to, the guy has left the country and I'm now stuck dealing with his ex-room mate. The worst part of this situation is I previously left him good feedback, I saw it just as I logged on to leave him negative feedback, I'm a fool.

It's kind of ironic that you are the only guy that ever dealt with him. 1 positive and 1 negative rating.....both left by you :):slap:

Slavex;;;;

You should have bought a Glock or Sig..but then your collection of broken parts would be much smaller..some people collect the weirdest things..:shotgun:

My girlfriend tried e-mailing the guy in the States with the Beretta parts website. No response. Yesterday we stopped in at DVC Indoor Shooting range in PoCo. Kelly actually has some Italian-made Beretta 92 locking blocks in stock! Wow! They are $100, but by the time one of those $60 locking blocks from the states got to our door (if the guy ever responded, that is) it probably would be close to that anyway.

She also got the rear sight fixed on her .22LR Beretta conversion kit. I'll post some pictures of that in another thread on that topic. Works alot better now. That was only $20 to get a new low-profile rear sight.

Had the same thing happen when I was chronagraphing rounds. a 9mm smg round got mixed in, the velocity was quite impressive, easly made major. unfortunatly it also broke the same part. taurus shipped from florida but I had to pay for it as I didn't want to send the gun south across the line

ha, yeah cuz the 4 broken Sigs I've seen in the last 5 years (frame failures) must've been rarities, same with the 9 or 10 broken Glocks I've seen. Guns break, of all makes.

The barrel comes back and hits the front of the mag well, that's high stress.

If Redleg has seen Italian-made guns do it then they've screwed up somewhere too. I've owned four that I've put significant amounts of ammo through, I've never had a block fail. All of them were made pre-95 so I think something's changed somewhere.

Anyone ever had a pre-95 Beretta 92 break the locking block?
