Would you buy a rifle that is on the looming C21 amendment list?

I just have to comment here. Yes, everyone makes choices. The young girl made a stupid choice here. As young people all too often do.
But her parents should have been smart enough to tell her that her choice was stupid, and encouraged her to get a useful education in some better direction. That's good parenting.
If the girl were my daughter, I would not have paid for her "socialist services" so called degree.

I had a similar situation with my daughter. She wanted to pursue a career as a speech therapist. I asked what was the prevailing wage at the time and she had to do some research to finally come up with $55,000 per annum. With than in mind, I said I would not be funding her education. She changed to nursing and I agreed to pay for her University education. She eventually graduated a the top of her class and now makes a six-figure income.

I'm neither as brave, or as hardcore about guns as most of you guys. I work very hard for my money and I save a little every month for my hobbies (when there's actually money over, I mean). Therefore, no I wouldn't buy a rifle that is slated to be banned.

I still wrote letters to MPs, donated to the CCFR and NFA, signed every petition that came my way, and voted in every election cycle - municipal, provincial and federal.

Some people take issue with that, and attempt to shame or judge. I don't really care. But let it be known that all the name calling just pushes people away - people who should be allies.

Sure. The government intentions to ban drove my wife and me to get our PAL. We've enjoyed plinking with pellet and bb guns. When the government said they intended to confiscate those, we decided we had better get our PALs. We've bought 5 firearms so far with 2 more on the wanted list and on the C21 list.

And for now we still have our 4 air guns. How much do you think the government will pay us when we turn those in? LOL.

There are basically 2 types of gun owners here:

The first type will not buy a firearm, because it will be banned and the other type will buy a firearm, because it will be banned.

I just bought one. My perspective is absolutely buy all the guns you can that are still legal. The more out in circulation, the less likely any kind of confiscation regime can be pulled off. All the 2020 OIC guns are still sitting in their owners safes, and the Libs have no idea how to go about with the "buyback". That's what happens when you do things before thinking them through  If it does get banned and sits in your safe... should SHTF, it's "banned" status would be of little concern :d Better to have it and never need it, than to need it and not have it, as the saying goes.

I went out and bought an non OIC gun immediately to replace my AR the second day OIC was announced. And I shoot even more than before.

Think about this - enjoy and shoot while you can. If every minute of life is a bonus, the logical option is enjoy it to the fullest! If I know there is uncertainty about shooting guns in future, I am going to buy and shoot as much as possible til the day I am not allowed to.

Most importantly - the best way to explain, an army needs logistics, logistics needs arms manufacturers aka industry base. When the government cuts budget and the arms manufacturers left, the industry base disappears. Even if the government changes it mind, it would take years and years to rebuild the base.

When people stop buying guns, the dealer/manufacturing base is getting eroded. When the base is eroded, it would takes years to attract people to pick up the risk again and get back into the gun business. It took over 15 years for the firearms industry to expand from the Harper era to what it is now.

If everyone goes out and buy at least something, this will keep the industry and the distributor network operational until the next friendly government gets in. This is kinda like the government is buying a certain quantity in peace time to make sure the factory can make enough profit to stay on, until the day war comes it can go back to 24/7 full rate production at max cap.

Greentips - that is an absolutely astute post that is both full of wisdom and understanding of not only what is at stake economically, but practically. It is prudent for everyone to see things through the lens of consequential dominoes and how this is not just about an individual choice but also about industry and business, how supply and demand will drive or discourage innovation. Most people by nature will see things through the lens of their particular circumstances, and there is certainly merit in that (ie. it's going to be hard to buy anything when you are in significant financial debt or have family responsibilities that have already taxed oneself financially). I think in this case it's a matter of something, which once it goes into extinction, it ain't coming back.

For retailers and manufacturers who rely on a regular customer base - if the customers decide to not buy, it will have a snowball effect on multiple peripheral operations and industries, and that in turn will adversely impact related industries to the point where collectively there is little incentive to continue. If we ever get to that point, there will not be any turning back.

This is not just about buying just firearms, but also ammunition, firearms components and continuing to support your local range/club with a membership. Even though my kids almost never come to the club with me, I still renewed my club membership (and my CSSA membership) with a family membership, just to support my club). And I have been buying ammunition regularly that my club has for sale. It may not seem like much, but if we start thinking like, "I'm not sure I will continue with a membership at the club this year as the Liberals may ban my guns and I'll have nothing to shoot", then the Liberals have already achieved their goal to disenfranchise both the shooting sports as a whole and firearms ownership in particular.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I am planning to or may have bought none, one or maybe more guns that were on the C21 amendment list.
That being said, i sure wouldn't be talking about it on an internet forum.

Pfff, unless you did a private cash transaction, anything bought from a store is logged.
