Would you consider bringing in Norinco 97 bullpups? (Part Deux)

At a $800ish ticket price, would you buy a 97A bullpup?

Man if only they had a lower profile hand guard on that thing then mounting optics wouldn't be such a pain. I can see why the PLA moved on, from a military standpoint it does have some issues.

Can anyone translate this? Just wondering what it says, obviously explaining the differences but I'm wondering which 97 Can Am will be getting.....

Differences of the 3 models in appearance:

Muzzle Configuration, Trigger Guard, Magazine Lock.

Muzzle Configuration

Type 97 adopted the M16 style flash hider for it's 5.56mm caliber at first, but then the Type 95 style flash hider out performed the M16 style, so Type 95 flash hider was chosen for the production model.

Trigger Guard (Integrated Grip)

Originally, Type 97 included the integrated grip with the trigger guard just as the Type 95, but it was requested by the buyer (Country X) to remove it.

Magazine Lock (Magazine)
Of cause they are different! They are different calibers! They did make some changes to improve the Type 97 production model cosmetically.

Type 95 (and similar guns build on the same platform)
had a 3-burst from the beginning.
They inherit that from the late versions of their predecessor, Type 89.

And that (in the hands of the soldiers by the chopper)
is not a Cambodian copy how it was said in previous threads.
If it is not made in China, then
it is made in one of the over 100 military plants
built and owned by China outside its borders.

One for you and one for Lector.

Just let me know when you're thirsty, there's more where that came from.

(an odd side note, but if you google "drink urine" there is a ton of stuff about people drinking their own urine.)

Thank you very much for the translation OnnO I appreciate it. It looks like we get the Cambodia configuration...I kinda like the sound of that for some reason.

While I'm at it, does anyone think a good mod would be a cocking handle that juts left or right instead of up? Or something that pivots left and right and then center for field stripping?

Le Deckard, I was telling you in another thread about this mods.

Well, you didn't quite see it at that time.
Instead you made fun of me
saying about the bolt carrier that it looks weak. Remember?
But if I was posting a funny pic, or bugging you,
you would have started piping right away.

That was more than a year ago.
Meanwhile both things have been done on one rifle.
The deflector was just for shizzles,
because both me and the rifle owner shoot right hand.
It does not function as a brass catcher how I initially suggested,
as I don't see the point in collecting brass that is badly mangled.

The charging handle was somewhat difficult.
The real reasons for doing that modification were
eliminating the vertical carry handle (moving it on the side) and
bringing the scope at a normal height, closer to the bore.

This is what was done:

Charging handle itself:
It was mounted on a thin collar, on the side
(it can be mounted on either side, left or right)
(if you want to drill that specific portion of the bolt carrier,
it has to be done very shallow
because it has another functions as well).

Plastic cover:
I was lucky to have the help of a friend who knows plastics
and who has enough patience to work with me.
There was very little left from the original plastic cover.
The carry handle was cut and the rest of the cover reinforced
with borders and 2 ribs.
The difficulty was the fact that I wanted
the plastic cover moded in such a way
that it can be removed (for cleaning purposes)
without removing the scope.

Scope mount:
Old scope mount was cut.
I tried a couple of different things until I found the way to
hook a scope mount mechanically,
since I hate to braze or work with heat on firearms.
She wasn’t pretty, but quite solid.
On top of that mount I put a short piece
(I think 10 grooves, 11 lands) of Picatinny rail.

Edit to add: front sight was eliminated as well.

Other people did a couple of other mods on that same rifle.

I've seen that Norinco Lector is talking about. It has the look completely changed. I had to stare long time to understand what gun it was. And it had a longer bull barrel I think.
Hey Doc, if I buy one tommorow, how much do you say you charge for these modifications?

The mods you guys have described are exactly what I was considering having done. Get the carry handle hacked down, preferably to a lower 20moa picitiny rail. Have a mod for the charging handle so it goes to the left, or right.

I wanted this done so I could have a Type 97 with a 24" bull barrel for varminting. Since we can't use Varmint AR rifles I was hoping to convert one of these. Seems like a no go though because of the barrel. Plus the cost for the mods (having some one good enough cut down and mod the carry handle)
