Would you hide a loan from your wife to buy a gun?

When I wasn't married I was able to buy whatever I wanted. Now that I am married, we have a joint account. My wife, for now, makes more money. We share everything, that's what marriage is. If your honest you'll feel better about it and there are more perks that come along with it ;)
Maybe I just have a great wife. She bought me a brand new truck in October..... I don't mind sharing.

I think its slimy of the bank to offer loans like that... military guys are on very fixed incomes... there are $$$ institutions out there that prey on this...
Since you asked I would say dont fall for the rip off... Our grand parents for the most part didnt even borrow money to buy a house... our parents started borrowing for the house and maybe a car... our generation borrows to eat at McDonalds... Don't go into debt over a gun... you'll enjoy it far more if you pay for it once rather than twice
a very wise man once pointed out that "the borrower is slave to the lender"
just my thought... keep the penny

WOW the emotionality of it... I can smell the estrogen already! Every guy I know that's married has to ask permission to even go out for wings once a month. It must be worth it, I just don't see how..

We should start a club to save our brothers who have lost their senses...

I've been a lurker, hard core reader for a while here at CGN, and I have to say this post has to be one of the funniest things ever... I just had to post, because I have gone through this many of times with my wife about my purchases, maybe it will apply to the loan idea.... My advice, which was given to me from my old boss: "it's easier to ask for forgiveness, then it is for permission"... Hope that helps...

If you have the money do like my brother in law. Buy a $1500 gun and $1500 bucks worth of jewlery or whatever she likes. Then show her both at the same time. How can she be mad.

p.s. "whatever she likes" does not include a vacuum or the kitchenaid mixer she said she liked!

stay away from the loan -- paper trail! Wife might want to see or stumble upon a pay stub.

Cash your cheques, and every now and then stash a few bucks in a secret place. Cash is friendly for evil deeds

how is it lying? none of her business what you do with your money. see the Jeep thread in OT.

ah, should be heddin over to afgan in like 2-3 months anyway. Ill just show her my buddy burtons new rifle you saw earler, the C14 Timberwolf. and be like " that or this ".

youll see boys, The Man will come out on top ;)

Keep your head down and stay safe. Thank you for your service

Tell the wife you are gonna buy a new gun with some of the extra money from being in Afgan when you get back,
Set up an automatic savings. No one could argue with that.

damit. ur right.

How can we get around this ?

Several options available to you:

1. Save up the money and buy the rifle outright.

2. Talk to her about the loan thing, it sounds pretty reasonable IMO.

3. Sell something you don't use anymore to fund the purchase of the rifle.

Then again, you're asking about advice on buying a rifle from CGN... kinda like letting the fox guard the hen house if you catch my drift. :D

Keep the extra money you do while in Afgan. and buy the rifle with that! You don't want to buy it now and leave it behind for the entire tour do you? Next thing you know, you get back and it's in the living room having a beer with your wife.
Oh wait, I mixed the best friend and the rifle stories...

i probably wouldn't do the loan but I am not one to judge as I went into a gunstore to get a cleaning kit and when I walked out I had two rifles and no cleaning kit... To make matters worse she was waiting in the truck with the kids so I couldn't even hide them or sneak them home...

The only difference is it's his wife, not his girlfriend as in the Jeep thread... I do agree with you in principle... but I don't think the OP's wife would. :p

I sometimes find myself in similar dilemmas. Here is what has worked so far for me ( kind of ) A few years ago I got her a really nice gift ( the one she wanted for Christmas ) ...and a 4 wheeler for HER. I could use the wheeler when I wanted to :^)

Last year I got her a black lab puppy for our anniversary...of course that same Lab is my new water dog...the trick is to make it about them.

Wow! Is this really what I have to look forward to?

I am getting pressured from all angles to put a ring on her finger but you guys got me thinkin..........

She has been on me about my spending habits for some tim, and I am the first to admit I am addicted to the EE, and buying/selling guns period.

It was always like I was throwing away our future everytime I brought home a new toy of any kind. I tried explaining that the reason I spent all the money noe was because I know when I am done school, and we have a house and kids all my spending on me will be over.(sadface)

It worked for awhile, but then she started questioning my commitment to our future. It was either I put a ring on her finger or put a chunk of cash away to start saving for a downpayment on a house.

For now we just started saving for a house, and I was able to put away $2000 up front. When I get my tax return that is another $1000.

So far my girlfriend has put away $300!

Not to put her efforts in question, but I finally have something to hold over her head. She can't say anything anymore about what I spend on guns. At least not until she matches me in the house fund! :D
