I'd get a different upper or a temporarily install a longer barrel.
Incidentally, is it possible to register two uppers to one lower, so you don't have to call the CFO every time you want to switch uppers?
You have 30 days to call in and update the registration so essentially its pointless to even bother if you actually use two uppers. Even if you left the non registered one on all the time and you were stopped for some reason and they wanted to charge you because it didn't match the registration they would have to prove in court beyond doubt that you changed it more than 30 days ago which would be very difficult to do when you own another upper that can swap in like 10 seconds.I'd get a different upper or a temporarily install a longer barrel.

Is open carry legal for non-residents? Lots of things that are ok down there for U.S. citizens don't apply to visitors.
