The rail is attached with two screws to the dust cover. Casey at TacOrd did all the work, fantastic job. Here's a picture.

I don't remember the cost, but it wasn't alot, both guns were done at the same time. The rail is from a Mossberg scope mount, I wanted to put a red dot on my 590 but after some research decided against it.
 
That's pretty sweet, and a fun approach. I've been thinking of picking up a Norinco 1911 and a Novaks rail they sell specifically for the 1911 pistol, but using a rail like that will save at least $60 ^.^ Now I can't wait for my RPAL to be processed and to pick me up my first hand gun @.@ blah, need to feed the habit ><
