WS-MCR - Ongoing Impressions

Valid point. This rifle is heavier so that would influence. I did a lot of research before deciding on this so I'm happy it's an AR alternative still available and similar in controls.

It's worth comparing the weight of the last AR you shot with the weight of this rifle when comparing recoil.

They are nothing alike in terms of recoil as they're completely different guns. Between an 18-20" 5.56 AR and a WS-MCR 18.7" medium profile barrel, the MCR shoots much flatter and with way less recoil.

The rifle definitely recoils very differently to an AR - one of the reasons I enjoy it enough to build an SBR with a medium profile barrel out of a WK as well. It's much flatter of a gun in terms of recoil and it naturally has way less "climb" and is far less "snappy". I'm finding it much easier to get tight followup shots with the MCR over my ARs regardless of length and weight of AR (comparing 10.5" and 18.6" barrels in 5.56 for my own experience)

Glad you're enjoying it. Best NR semi-auto rifle that's not a bullpup for under 2k in 5.56 we can legally buy now in my opinion.

Anybody else have problems removing the magnetic bolt handle? Mine appears to have become one with the bolt carrier.

well.....I bought one. I like this New style folder stock much better then that Tube thing.
zero rounds down the pipe. I will say its got an excellent trigger !! Light , positive and Crisp.
gotta look it over and shoot it. then I will have something to say LOL

Considering that the side panels are separate and hence "modular" (to an extent) it would be cool to see Wolverine/Spectre develop a different panel for the charging handle side that integrated a kind of "ejection port cover" but for the pat the charging handle rides in. Or even offer the option of right side charging with an ejection port cover like the AR-18/180. I'd rather right side charging and a sealed up receiver over the improved ergos of left side charging (that can be mitigated with the addition of a bolt release).

I've got 400 rounds through mine so far and it's running great (provided you don't use pmags).

Yeah, you have to take way more care on an open bolt than with an AR.

Seems more likely to happen with polymer mags for me.

I have the newest model with the folder and I tried the metal mag that it came with,..and you simply Cant push it in to far.....maybe they fixed the issue ??
It stops Solid.

Thanks,

I think I would hold out for the MCR. I compared the two side by side at the range on the weekend. The finish on the MCR is superior, and the aesthetics are much nicer.

I would totally agree with you.
I handled both at the gun shop.
once you see and handle them side by side......you defiantly feel the difference in Quality . Night and day.
one is wiggly and cheap feeling,..the other is tight and Robust

Just out of curiosity, has anyone contacted Wolverine/Spectre about this? Seems like a very simple fix.

I do NOT have the "roll pin" They must have Up Dated to the Cotter Pin.
I'm happy

after reading all these post on the issues,....I really like ALL the changes they made to the NEW model
I'm glad I waited

Final thoughts......well I could have bought a Keltec Su-16 for slightly less... " a plastic hand grenade" IMHO
I bought this rifle after hearing all the issues.....so if it falls apart....I'm to blame for buying it, and you wont hear me whining about it..LOL bet ya my sks out runs it.

If I go in to this "not liking the gun"...it will run like a champ......
It seems the guns I love...really let me down...lol

got some LAR mags coming.I'll dump a wack of rounds through it and see if it holds together.
Didnt buy it for precision shooting....... more like,,,,accuracy through volume, LOL
Run her wet & feed her hard !
If it flys apart...I have a great story for the grand kids when they come over.

There's no reason to believe that this gun is unreliable. The majority of its owners are happy with the reliability from what I've experienced (provided the castle nut is staked and the firing pin retaining pin is replaced - which it has been on the newer ones).

Go dump some mags and have fun, but also as far as precision shooting goes, this thing is a hell of a lot more accurate than a factory cheap mass-produced AR like an M&P Sport 2, Ruger 5.56, DPMS etc etc etc.

It's a medium profile 18.7" barrel on a solid chassis - go have fun with "precision" or mag dumps.

As Simonov always says - "rifle is fine, comrade"

Thanks nood
all sounds positive.
no castle nut...and no roll pin on this model. good to go.!

and....a brass deflector to boot !
