My truck is a Dodge Cummins, American
Hate to tell you this but Dodge = Chrysler = Bailout money = Chinese bought US bonds. Your car was made with money borrowed from the Chinese governement, who will get interests on top of it. You directly contributed to what you are afraid of.
Have a nice day.
Keep it and shoot it as it is. Don't mount a scope unless you really want to make it worthless - 95% chance scope alignment with bore will be a can of worms, so don't even attempt it.
It shoots well with the irons. Live with it or sell it.
It is what it is. Somebody messed it up, maybe factory, maybe not. Doesn't matter unless it's a warranty claim, which it isn't.
Look at it as a learning experience - now you know how important it is to do a thorough inspection when you're buying used guns.
2004, not so much Chief. And you clearly missed a post, US workers with family and political structures we recognize built that truck and were paid to. In addition, you also missed where I said all arguments in favour of going full on walmart philosophy with all our purchases, including guns, are simply 'everybody else is doing it' arguments; yours included.
To each their own, but to buy is to vote. A lot of people here vote Communist China.

ardent: why would i quote your long drawn out post if i only want to reply to a few points?
you need to reread my post. i pointed out was your truck has more asian component then you think and the amercian and canadian steel were bought from foreign mining companies as iron ore by US steel companies that is partially own by the japanese. where did i twist your quote?
the US worker that built dodge truck in 2004 got paid , they were paid by the germans owner and thats where the profit went to. not so american after all.
and if the same workers still have a job today, they are being paid by the italian. who know who will pay them in the future. im sure the US worker who still have a job wont care . with 13% unemployment in michigan , they will be shopping at walmart .
so is your truck really american? the toyota made in the US is it really an american car? does the person who owns it even know its built in the US? do they even care?
supernova: well said, thats exactly what i meant when i said "welcome to the new millennium", buy what best for you cos the world is getting to be a small place, corporations are buying a piece of each other , joint ventures, foreign subsidiaries are being set, materials are being imported and components are cheaper to buy than make. its all business, either sink or swim.
This is where you missed some more, I couldn't care less if the money goes to Germany, Italy, England, or Brazil; all are western countries. In the part you had cut out, I even pointed out my watch is German. I lived in Germany, and you know what, it wasn't much of adjustment. China, not so much. I'm perfectly happy if profits from vehicles I buy find their way to allies and democracies, and advocate that exact choice.
Shalimar, you missed something too. I stated there are some things, like electronics be it a PC, or an O2 sensor in an engine, that we've lost the ability to manufacture for ourselves. Doesn't mean the rest of everything we buy doesn't matter. I don't buy the everyone else is doin' it argument. It's certainly not like there aren't options in firearms that aren't Chinese. We're both pilots, as I understand, though I'm of the helicopter persuasion. Would you fly Chinese with the same smile as American or Euro? Perhaps you would, but I wouldn't.
yeah it was fun, but thats enough! Another note, I was looking at the Leupold one-piece base on my fathers M700, it uses dovetail rings, and the rear is windage adjustable...I could whip up another over-the-top mount out of angle iron or something flat on top and put one of those on there.
I'm sorry jethunter, I respect your opinion but we're not on the same page. If we flip back to the cover I'd geuss we're in different books! This is a mod rifle. It has no collector value to me and its modded already, heck it was a bit banged up when I got it. This SKS is perfect for scoping: detachable mags, ejection window mod for proper side ejection, no last shot hold open and stripper clip guide. I completely agree with your last sentence, you are absolutely right, I missed it. But youre first sentence is my challenge that I am working on solving. I do this alot, at work and at home. I'm a welder by trade, problem solving is a daily occurance, especially when steel is involved. I dont just leave well enough alone, I modify alot of my stuff to better suit my needs or taste. You can either accept that these tye of things will always happen, go at them with a positive attitude, find a solution and move on, or get your ass into something a little more quaint. Like knitting... I'm also planning a little venture into accurizing SKS's, info I will then try to apply to the non-shooters. Find out just what makes the difference between a 3 moa rifle and a 8 moa rifle when they both look identical. But I am wondering how you figure scoping it will make it worthless?
I see your point now Jethunter, and that would be my standpoint if all the mods done to this rifle hadnt been working towards mounting a full size scope on an SKS without any compromise (loading/unloading, spent casing ejection, still able to use irons etc) somewhere deep in the chinese/not chinese debate I mentioned my plan to file down the high spot seen in the second pic, it wont make it flat but will stop it from pushing the mount out to the left a little bit. Then after the factory irons are sighted back in, I can set the rifle in the cradle and aim the irons at a specific POA on the wall, then file the mount on an angle to slowly bring the crosshairs back to center. I'm sure I'll hit speed bumps, but I'll get her figured one way or another. And if that turns into a big hairball, I can always make a steel angle iron mount with one piece windage adjustable base/rings. My 858 is staying iron sighted, and when funds allow for a nice russian SKS it will stay original. I just want to build this one with the scope my way, eliminating compromise. I do know better than to try bending that reciever, you are right about that too! It still functions, but I will keep a close eye on it. Ive just got too much time and money into this one to throw it all away and start again you know? Anyways, I'll update progress as it comes along.
