WTF is it about the 45ACP?

let's face it shooting a 45 means you've done all the rest, you've played, experimented, searched and researched and realized that it really is the only way to go. Power, size and accuracy almost perfectly balanced - there are few things that can be done with a pistol that can't be done superbly with a 45 auto. Bullseye, action, even bear defense for crying out loud (talk to Gunnar) it's amazing what can be done simply by adjusting the load. As for the 1911, I've shot a huge number of handguns - Browning - CZ- Berettas (9,380,32,22) - Glock (9,40,45 - ported Arotek prototype with integral laser)- S&W virtually every gun in the gun of the week catalogue - Desert Eagle ( .357, .41, .44, .50) - 454 Casull - genuine Colt SAA- even single shots in .223 and .308, nothing feels as good in your hand as a 1911, including guns with adjustable backstraps, the only thing that comes close is a free pistol with orthopedic grips and while that might work for me it certainly wouldn't for the next guy to pick it up. You can pretty much guarantee the 1911 will work for everyone who picks it up. The 1911 redefines "natural pointer".

.45? Sure its a great round... but it pales in comparison to a 10mm. Frankly the price of ammo for it I dont shoot mine as much as I use to as well. .45acp for bear defence? Sounds like a really bad idea. If it wasnt for the 1911 platform...would people really give a #### about the .45?

I will say though, that I will never sell my 1911... whether I shoot it or not...its always gonna be part of my collection.

Actually 45-08 check out Armco's site for the specs. 308 brass cut and turned to hold the pressure.

So I finally bought a 1911.

Why, you ask?

1. Controllable recoil--so a double tap becomes a reality.
2. The tradition. The history. The anecdotes. Almost literary.
4. The look. All the competition around the same design has made the manufacturers pay close attention to appearance. There are some gorgeous .45's out there.
5. Thickness. For concealability.
6. Defense against boredom. Bored? Modify. Endless catalogues.
7. The cult. Interesting forums. Interesting debates.
8. When I'm 105, I don't want to say. I shoulda had a 1911.

The reasons I like 45ACP.... well I own a Glock21 and it seems to have less recoil that any of my 9mm or 40SW pistols. And the other reason, because it's bigger, it's much easier to reload than the smaller round... IMHO. :D

And as far as cost goes, if I use my cast bullets, I can reload my 45ACP for about the same cost as .22LR..... (yes, I have a cast bullet barrel for my Glock)

I'm developing that 'super vision' for .45 brass too... though last time I was @ the range somebody had left .50 AE all over the place. Totally threw my radar off--.45 looked a lot more like .40 S&W in comparison to that ridiculous oil drum of a cartridge case...

Now, here's a question to see if you are a true GunNutz... Did you walk away with the .50AE brass thinking to yourself that you might just need it at some point in time?

:D
Been there, done that.
Not with 50AE, but with 45/70...

Pickin' Up That brass!

If nothing else... relatively rare brass is always desireable as a trade or sale item on the EE here or at a gun show... ;)

Admittedly the 10 is one of the hardest to master as all the others give the shooter the skills needed to conquer the 10MM and that's where all the fun really begins. AFAIC the FBI was full of WIMPS in the days when the 10 was rejected for duty service as now they use everything but the 10,mostly 9's,40's,.357Sigs.The real problem with the 10 was the failure for any mfg giant to come up with a reliable delivery platform where the Bren 10 should have been the winner and went down because of a business failure only.IMHO

IIRC, the FBI dumped the 10 due to the size of the platform. Guy's were actually carrying the gun's in briefcases and vehicle. As a plain clothes organization, whoever made the decision to go to the Smith 1006 screwed up. Plus, it was a 180 gr. bullet at 975FPS (AKA .40 S&W), so the WIMPS are redeemed. But hey, they needed a scapegoat for the Miami shooting, and it had to be the 9mm (that's a whole other discussion). As for the .45, I don't know why there's the allure, but it's is truly there, and a fantastic cartridge. I have a G20, but she's up for sale since I got my new baby, all I need is a 10mm KKM barrel, and life is good. G21SF, just had to have one (cause it's a .45), after I handled at the SHOT Show.

Oh god yes, I got it all, even deprimed and cleaned it once I got it home. I'll probably never own a .50 AE anything, but the empties make excellent powder dippers if nothing else :D

But only if you dip real fast, or use powder larger than the flash hole.
