WWII War Birds - pics and video

man, wouldn't it be cool to go back to just post war and buy a Bearcat, Hellcat, Coursair, P51-D, couple of Spits(mk2 for its handling, Mk9LF for its power and speed), a P-38, BF109G, FW190D, a late war Yak, and a B25 for an "executive jet" :)

stick em all in a barn in AZ, pay someone a few bucks to make sure its safe and then go get it all today.

Oh and a Sea Fury, Hurricane, Typhoon a Mosquito, and a Zero. Oh and a Beaufighter, P61 Black widow. And any and all oddball late war German experimental stuff. And an ME262.

And pack a couple of crates of Garands in the Mitchell :D

Canso in Canadian service, Catalina in US and elsewhere if I'm not mistaken.

Typically the PBY5 constructed by consolidated aircraft was constructed without retractable landing gear and was referred to by the Americans as the Catalina.
PBY5A constructed by Canadian Vickers was built with retractable gear and called the canso by canada. Most existing PBYs left are actually Canadian built cansos painted up as the American Catalina.

I'm not aware of any flying Catalinas as they were not as versatile after the war and were scrapped.

Pigboat is also a correct term ;)

Not being a D!ck, I just don't like the Americans taking all the glory.

Only military airframe that I'm aware of to serve both as as a pusher prop, 1943

And as a jet, 1947.

Where, why and for what purpose was this done? COIN fighter for a third world country? That's a lot of hardware in a small package.

Where does one get to shoot 6 .50 BMG's from a P-51 in the good ol' US of A? That ain't gonna happen at any county air show.

Lancaster fm212(now with the nickname of bad penny) this was bought by the city of Windsor a sat in Jackson park for 40 years before it was taken down in 2005 and is now being restored. the Lancaster is one of my favourite aircraft nothing like 4 Rolls Royce merlin engines starting up and idling
