An easy one i think... Could someone please confirm the barrel length of an x bolt 300WSM with a muzzle break in either the hells canyon speed or the western hunter? They are both listed at 23", but is thst with or without the muzzle break?

Preferrably someone who has one rather than makng an assumption. Alternatively, lengths of other calibers would work for comparisons sake...

Thanks!

I have an xbolt western hunter in 7 mag. I haven't had it long enough to actually use the measuring tape but as far as I know it's 26" including the brake. I could give you a better idea Friday when I am home if you really need.

Ya.. If anyone can give me an actual measurement, that would be great... Of the dealers I talked to today, my results were about 50/50 as to whether the muzzle break is included in the barrel length..

One guy I talked to tried to tell me that the wsm comes with a 24" ported barrel. Damn it chaps my ass when salesmen don't know squat... Ok gripe over.

Thx
Cleo

The muzzle brake is NOT included in the barrel length. The barrel length on the specs is without any "attachments".

Most (but not all) of the standard calibers have 22" barrels, most of the WSM's have 23" barrels (but 26" on a couple of their "long range" models over the past few years). The magnums usually 24" or 26" barrels.

The BOSS added 2" to the over-all length and was never included in the barrel length.

I haven't measured the muzzle brake on the Hell's Canyon or Long Range Stainless (but looks about the size of BOSS - so 2'ish inches is my guess - can measure it when I get to work tomorrow). The brake is removable if you choose not to use it and they supply a little screw on cap to protect the threads. Last year or the year before there was also a Shot Show special that came threaded but didn't include the brake as standard (was capped) - that does not effect the published barrel length.

Well that's what I figure, but people keep telling me otherwise... It just doesn't make sense to me. I can't imagine browning making their wsm rifles with a 21" barrel plus a 2" break and listing it at 23". Can't wait to hear what the tape says.

Thx

Drop browning an email (contact us section on the website) - one of the techs could give you all the answers you want.

But otherwise agree with your reasoning. If the brake was included in the length they would have to make 21" WSM barrels for the models "with the brake" and 23" barrels for the other sub-models "without" and there are a couple dozen sub-models of the X-Bolt...

So funny thing, today I have a fellow come into my work, a small Fishing/ Hunting store and ask the very same questions. I believe I was very straight up with him, saying that I haven't seen one yet (except for the new Browning brochures) and that we had one on order.
This is a new gun on the market,(hells canyon) most small business won't have one in stock yet, and information is slim at best.
So I with the best of intent go to one of my favorite firearms resources CGN to see if there is any information I can learn so as to be able to help this costomer should he return, and I find this thread,
All I can say is WOW !
I treated the customer in my store with the greatest of respect. Why? Because I treat everyone that way, even the ones who come in just fishing for information, and I knew that with this guy, but the way I see it is we gunnies are all family.
So next time you feel the need to disrespect someone who is only trying to be helpful online remember its a small world. And I do except apologies in person.

Actually the BOSS equipped rifles do have shorter barrels than the non BOSS rifles, so they do make two barrel lengths.

I recently purchased a Browning XBolt Hells Canyon Speed in 6.5 Creedmoor. I took the brake off as recoil is certainly not an issue, and personally don't like the extra blast noise. They come with a thread cap, which I screwed in.

The length of the barrel with the thread cap screwed in is about 21 1/4 inches long. The brake is 2 inches long, and threads inside are about 1/2 inch. So with the brake screwed in, would be about 22 3/4 inches long.

Hope I measured things right!

PS: Browning advertises this rifle as a 22" barrel.

Hold on a second rgh470... Prior to purchasing either an xbolt hells canyon speed or a western hunter, I've been trying to confirm barrel length on the wsm chamberings. Browning lists the barrels at 23", but does not state whether this length includes the muzzle break. So far I've talked to around 15 people/businesses, and half say the 23" includes the break, half say it doesn't. It's a simple question that I haven't yet received a straight answer for...

Last night I spoke with you re this question, and within the first few minutes of the conversation, you fed me 3 totally incorrect pieces of information regarding these rifles:
1- you told me that "browning barrels are 24 inches long". WRONG. No chamberings in these models have 24" barrels. Short action, long action, short action magnum, long action magnum... None have 24" barrels.
2- you told me that these rifle barrels are ported. WRONG. They have removable muzzle breaks.
3- you told me that these models would not be available for a few months. WRONG. The western hunter has been available for at least 3 years, and the hells canyon speed has been sporadically available for a few months in Canada, including at least 1 store right here on Vancouver island.

Right off the hop it was clear to me that you knew little about the product your store sells. Instead of offering to find the correct answer, you fed me a bunch of BS and totally discredited yourself as a representative of the dealer. As a buyer it turns me off purchasing anything from you or your store, and can actually drive people to look for alternate products.

We both treated each other with respect during the conversation. I didn't name you or your store in my post. All I did is express frustration when people don't know the details about the product they sell. As such, I am unclear as to why you're asking for an apology...

Thanks very much for looking into this for me, as well as the others who have helped constructively... I"ve got a note into Browning as suggested above as things don't quite seem to line up given the amount of confusion on the subject, but haven't heard back yet..

Cheers,
C.
