I just recently purchased an X-bolt Varmint Stalker and couldn't be happier with it. I had spent the previous month and a half doing a lot of research between them and two other rifles I was considering, a Remington 700 VTR and SPS Varmint. I'm glad I went with the Browning. From what I've looked at between the two brands, the comparable Browings typically had a few extra features. The deciding factors for me was; 1. The Dura-touch stock - Way nicer than any Remy I handled. 2. The detachable mag. There is nothing wrong with a 'plastic' mag and like others have said, it wont rust nor bend and it saves weight. Hinged plates don't do anything for me... A lot of Remington’s have that
3. Read through enough forums and you'll see Remington quality is notoriously spotty and hit and miss. Not that they don't make good guns, just not as consistently as some other manufactures. I have never heard anyone say anything less about Browning other then 'They make good guns'. Out of all the rifles I handled, the Brownings just ‘felt’ like better quality.
Don't listen to pilot, he sounds pretty biased. Browning, Winchester, Sako/ Tikka, Savage (Not the cheep ones), Remington... All make firearms that at the very least wont leave you thinking you wasted your money. You’ll be VERY happy with the X-Bolt.
