X-BOLT Browning & MONARCH III

I just recently purchased an X-bolt Varmint Stalker and couldn't be happier with it. I had spent the previous month and a half doing a lot of research between them and two other rifles I was considering, a Remington 700 VTR and SPS Varmint. I'm glad I went with the Browning. From what I've looked at between the two brands, the comparable Browings typically had a few extra features. The deciding factors for me was; 1. The Dura-touch stock - Way nicer than any Remy I handled. 2. The detachable mag. There is nothing wrong with a 'plastic' mag and like others have said, it wont rust nor bend and it saves weight. Hinged plates don't do anything for me... A lot of Remington’s have that :( 3. Read through enough forums and you'll see Remington quality is notoriously spotty and hit and miss. Not that they don't make good guns, just not as consistently as some other manufactures. I have never heard anyone say anything less about Browning other then 'They make good guns'. Out of all the rifles I handled, the Brownings just ‘felt’ like better quality.

Don't listen to pilot, he sounds pretty biased. Browning, Winchester, Sako/ Tikka, Savage (Not the cheep ones), Remington... All make firearms that at the very least wont leave you thinking you wasted your money. You’ll be VERY happy with the X-Bolt.

First of all i would like to say that if no one can get Quarter minute acuraccy out of there guns past 300 ... srry to hear that, Its not an impossible feat. For me " PERSONALLY " anything more than half minute is not satisfactory. Second, it dosent sound like im bias... " FOR $1000 PRICE RANGE I AM BIAS" to Remington. Thats my opinion , However i would take a Savage or even a Tikka would be a better coice " IN MY OPINION " than a browning for `$1000. Yes there other guns that are far better than Remington for 2K+. I personally will never buy a factory action ever again. That is just me. But the Remingtons i have wont be leaving my cabinet either. I did say i know a lot of people " including myself" that had accuracy problems with ABolts. If you read my original post, I never once said the Xbolts are shooting poorly ... I will be the first to say they shoot very well. I just think they are poorly built, and the company " DOES " have terrible customer service if you do have a problem with a rifle. That is not an opinion ... That is a fact ! Its not just terrible... its the worst !

All i did was write a post about personal exsperience with a rifle and a company and try and steer a guy with a $1000 budget in the right direction. I find it immature that certain people find it neccasary to take personal shots at another member because they have never seen a factory rifle shoot quarter minute accuarcy past 300 yards. " Question there credability " Or " make it easy to weed out there post" lol

For the members that have posted there personal opinions about there success stories with Browning ... I honestly respect there posts and Im glad they didnt have the poor experince's that I, and others i know have had. and im sure Gabriel would like to hear more if thats the route he wants to take.

As for my second post, I apologize as i had become defensive and stated observations i have personally made in a sarcastic manner due to the uncalled for negitive personal shots that were fired. When all that was need was another personal opinion containing actual facts.

I know that this is a hunting forum so i dont expect a lot of the guys to have confidence to shoot past 300. They just dont get a chance to do It. I personally shoot 1000 yards regularly. With todays quality equipment ... Rangefinders, Optics ,rifles , powders, high BC bullets ... extreme accuracy at long range is easily obtained. If you hang out at the right places, with the right people, with the right equipment and knowledge, Accomplishments previously thought not possible are happening on a regular basis... actually now considered average. In my shooting community 1000 yards is the new 600! and opinions are respected !

If a factory Rem CDL SF in 7mm Rem Mag can use the cheapest Fed ammo and place all shots within an inch at 400 yds, then all records would be held with that rifle/ammo combo. I still can not find ANY records held that relate to either component. Could you at least point me in the right direction to find all these records that have been broken? I am not calling anyone a liar, I just find this information you posted more than amazing and would seriously like to know more! I have built many customs, and even those that make 10 shot ragged holes at 100, don't too often maintain the same MoA accuracy at extended ranges due to other factors such as wind, etc... I would Love to be able to shoot a wart off a fly @ 500 yds everytime, but I don't own a high powered laser....

Where do you shoot 1K on the Island?

We have a spot in the bush near upper Campbell lake, gets us to around 980. We have a spot in the white river area " sayward junction that is sick ... Possible to shoot 2000 yards safely if you had a 338 edge/lapua or bigger. No gun ranges.

i have a 1.5x8 minox and am very impressed with the glass. as to how well it will sand up vrs the luepolds i usually use time will tell.

“I know that this is a hunting forum so i dont expect a lot of the guys to have confidence to shoot past 300”
Lol, how smug of a comment is that. I’m sure you’re not the only one here who does shoot past that.
From your original post: “The new Xbolts are shooting good but they are the worst built rifle on the market”

How can you say they're poorly built? I went to several local firearms stores and physically held and looked at several different models/ makes of rifles. The Sako/ Tikkas and Brownings by FAR felt like a much better built rifle. Remington stocks felt cheap. Sendero’s are decent, but the many in the 700 line just didn’t cut it or even come close. I wonder if you happen to have a link to a site that shows the failure/ return rate by manufacturures? From month's of research I did online, looking through a variety of reviews and forums on different rifles, Remington was the only brand, more specifically the 700 that kept coming up as being of shoty quality and hit and miss out of the box accuracy. The new X-Bolts have made a name for themselves simply because of their quality and OTB accuracy. Have you felt a Dura-Touch stock? It's a night and day difference between the Remington composites and other brands. I noticed you recommended Savage; my friend bought one, albeit a cheaper one, around $4-500 I believe. It LITTERALLY fell apart after a year of not very tough use. I wouldn’t buy a cheap Savage for the life of me.

I'm no expert pilot2001, not by a 'long shot'. Nor am I shooting at such lengths as you or have your knowledge about firearms. But you are most certainly biased. As am I too, I admit. But the value and quality I get out of my X-Bolt Varmint Stalker is phenomenal. Out of the dozens I looked at and the hand full that I scowered over with a fine toothcomb, my X-bolt was a clear winner. (Although the Sako/ Tikka's were right there too). I find it funny since I have never seen a 'Remington' decal or bumper sticker before, but I see the Browning logo on a truck or car almost every day now. There must be a simple reason for their popularity. I think you should at least take another look at an X-bolt if you get the chance some day, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Who is pilot 2001............"1 inch groups at 400 yards" ...........does he expect us to take him seriously ???

Perhaps he thinks one shot is a group ???

Well, he is correct in that statement.
After all it was a Group of One, ;)
Had the OP offered his/her budget constraints then maybe we all would have an informed opinion on "F" Class BR shooting.(missed the thousand dollar bit in the first post)
I do not recall ever seeing an "F" Class gun out in the field and if I did I would be looking for the rest of them guys trying to shot the eyes outta bugs, cause sure as bears ####e in the woods I wouldnt be hunting where they are shooting.
Buy a Wby. Vanguard or a Browning in either A-bolt or X-bolt or a Winchester or even a Tikka in T3 but make dam sure it fits Your body and your budget, cause if the ole lasy finds out you spent 6 k on that new fandangled gun in the safe, she is going to be asking some serious questions about where your head was that day.
Seriously, there are some really well made firearms right out of the box (factory, save for the Savages not a fan) and then again there are some seriously fine firearms that cost thousands of $$$
Buy a Leupold and Tight Groups,
Rb

i bought 4 brownings in the 16 months, including an x bolt. I havent shoot every gun on the market nor do i normally shoot over 300 yrds, but very happy with my brownings .. but again I'm not shooting taliban at 400 yards ... maybe i should throw them all in the garbage!! Pilots in the wrong forum and i highly question his credibility!! If browning had a bigger selection on pistols I would have more ...but they seem to have my long rifle needs satiisfied.

I bought my Xbolt Stalker Stainless in 270 WSM few months ago, i'm happy with it.
I like the Inflex recoil pad, the 23" Flutted barrel, the 60 degree bolt lift & the Carbon Fiber Finish.
Dura Touch Armor Coating is very comfortable touch. i have no problem shoot 1" MOA with a Vortex Viper 3-9x40mm.
Only bad thing about my xbolt is a little expensive compare to some other rifles out there, but it's worth it
