X95 or T97 Gen3?

I can’t quite understand the obsession over replacement parts for a gun that I’ve never heard of anything breaking on. Truthfully, in my entire collection of rifles and handguns and shotguns, I’ve never had to replace a part, ever.

I’m hindsight, I lied. I did have to replace a magazine spring in my 1962 model 94. That’s it.

Had my charging handle rod break on my Tavor21. Had to replace it. Thankfully, there's lot of readily available parts. Replaced it with the Manticore Arms charging handle and charging rod. Much better than the stock. It does happen. Parts break. Especially with extensive use.

Also got myself a second hand gen 1 T97 for $500 a few years ago for parts, since getting parts imported is virtually impossible unless you're willing to pay an arm and a leg, and wait obscene amounts of time. If anything on my current (in use) gen 1 breaks, I have something to replace it with on the fly. Thankfully, it's been a really solid rifle. Nothing has failed on it yet, and I've put more rounds through it than I did my Tavor, where as my Tavor has already had parts fail.

Parts availability is important when you get into higher volumes. I've replaced numerous parts on AR15's. Even SKS rifles need new parts after a certain point. I had to replace the charging handle on one Tar21 and the firing pin on the other Tar21 I had. This was after 10K plus rounds on each of the Tavors. I've since replaced the Tar 21's with X95's which I prefer ergonomically, I just hope they are as robust as the Tar21.

I've never owned a T97, only shot them. I would take the X95 any day over the T97. I'm sure that for the average shooter, both rifles will function well for them, but if you are doing real volume then you better have a spare rifle if the one you choose has a parts supply problem.

Heard the same about an AK firing pin needing very little to machine it down to work.

I did reach out to NS and they do have some parts available like the bolt and piston, no firing pin, but asked me why I needed them? I said I haven't made up my mind on what to get, he said for all the T97s out there the number of times they needed parts you shouldn't worry about it??????

So they will sell parts but they are not cheap and just prefer the firearm get sent back. Looks like the biggest issue was the feed ramps on early guns, this seems to have been resolved, so I just don't know anymore, as I hear even the Tavors experience broken parts just so spun around. :(

What Gatehouse said. I've replaced extractors on 3 firearms. I've provided spares for friends who have lost parts. I'm sure there is more that I can't think of offhand. Spare parts are paramount. Especially those of us who want to pass our firearms on to our children.

I put 6000 rounds through my TAR21 and dryfired it countless times in about 2 years and I was not the first owner. No Issues.

I hit about 2000 rounds on my my X95, stripped it down after a range session and found the firing pin had snapped. Now, it had snapped in a place where both parts were trapped in a narrow channel in the bolt, and so was actually continuing to function. Meaning it had broke much earlier without me noticing. Now you've heard of it! I'm pretty glad I had the foresight to have a spare.

In nearly 9 years in the army, I saw one C7 firing pin snap from dry firing. But that's enough to know that it does happen, it's a critical part, so it's nice to have a replacement.

"Spare parts" for the T97 can be had if you're willing to get creative, it's VERY similar to an AK in a lot of ways. An AK firing pin can be modified to fit.

I was actually talking about parts on the t-97 since parts availability seems to be a concern for some. That’s the one I’ve never heard of anything breaking on (yet). I highly doubt most shooters shoot enough to make it a worthwhile concern. I know I’ve bought otter guns rather than a spare parts gun and I’m comfortable with that.

T97

Compact, reliable and much cheaper. It's more reliable than Colt M4. It never jams. It's easy to take down. As long as T97 is still imported, you can find spare parts.

People have mentioned the T97 denting brass, does the X95 do the same?
I don't reload just curious.

Yes, my X95 dents all brass. Another CGNer send me a video with a slow mo of the ejection process and it is there that the brass is being dented. None of my other 5.56 rifles do this, but at least it's not a bug...it's a feature...
