XCR 10000 round range report **pic heavy** and long winded...

I just made up a number, but how many mags do you have?
Kidding, but I think you're on to something. For everyone.

10 rounds @ xx yards
Rounds on paper, with no shoots
Position- shooter choice
Include 1 mag change
Add time for miss
Video

Or however you want to organize it. It's all yours. ;)

Fwiw, even when I'm dumping rounds, I'm still on target.

Was out in bush today. 10 rounds, 25 yards, 1.7 seconds from high ready 8 outa 10 on paper (12 inch target). Took a lot of tries because the app on my phone doesn't catch all the rounds... Crappy phone mic... Only other one I got was 2.6 sec ten rounds, 10 on paper. 20 yards.

On a side note, my stock is a little loose vertically.... Nothing bad hardly noticeable but.... I notice.... lol any other ways to tighten it up? Or just trace out some black construction paper and put it in.

Quick update:
12480 rounds, broken hammer spring.

In my last two trips out, I've had 3 ftf's. That's a total of 4, in 12480.
Light primer strikes in the 3 failure to fire, trigger feels slappy. Pulled the gun apart today to find the broken spring.

As soon as the keymod parts kits are out ill buy one. I plan on putting just as many rounds down the pipe myself. Im only at 1000 so far!

So what kind of magazines have you tried? Always hear of 7.62x39 magazine horror stories..... so what works well?

Hi niner. Sure putting it through a test. Fantastic. My count is going up slowly at bout 600 now. Rifles working great. Accuracy excellent. Totally reliable. Can't wait for cold and snow. Also hunting coyotes and wolves

The only mags I've used are XCR pistol mags. The case taper shouldn't cause any problems in any pistol mag.

I just got back from tracking yotes, cougar, and deer. Carrying the XCR but shooting with a camera. Only got pics of the deer.

I don't think it could be done... :p
I'm kidding, I've never even fired one.
Do you have one? I'll be waiting for your report.

So I've broken the hammer spring, the gun still fires.
When I broke the op-rod, the gun still fired.
My firing pin spring was broken, still fired.
I forget what my point was. ;)

Ouch :p im guessing itd make it to 10 000 and have a worn out gas system. Civil advantage training on youtube did a test on a norinco ar and made it to that amount when the gas port got so worn it would shave part of the bullet jacket off and plug the gas system causing ftf. But yes i do own one ive abused it a bit doing mag dumps and getting it really hot not sure if this would be detrimental to it lasting. When im done this crate ill be at 1400 rds

Hey 9x. I gave up waiting for the x39 conversion kit and bought an l already in x39. :)

I also got 10 of the 10 round mags same as yours.
However, I am having all kinds of feed issues. I have only about 200 rounds thru it but at least 1 out of every 2 mags has a failure to feed with full metal jacket.
I tried some soft points and they are way worse, 2 fail to feed per mag on average.
It appears to me that the neck of the cartridge is hitting the top of the mag ....

At almost the same time the extraction groove hits on a dimple on the inside of the mag ....

I believe this is causing the cartridge to kick up and hit the top of the chamber and not feed.
The soft points have a smashed in (or 1/2 smashed in) point so they are hitting something .......

Are the mags you have the same where the neck hits the top of the mag?

I am thinking if I grind down the top of the mag where the neck hits it should solve the problem.

Any advise would be great

Thanks

I'll have a look when I get home.

If memory serves, I've got 3 mags that look like yours, and the others are relieved, where the neck is touching the mag. Of those 3 mags, 1 is giving me problems.

I'm out of the loop, what fore grips are you using. I like.

Thanks!

The grips are "PTK Ergonomic Pointing Grip By Fab-Defense". I got from Amazon.ca but I don't see them on there anymore.

Ok Darren, I've had a look, and I was wrong. All the mag bodies are the same.
I'm having a different effect than you, but possibly the same cause. I've found the problem on mine, just now. Thanks :)
I have 14 mags, 1 is problematic.
With 10 loaded, 8 feed and fire, bolt passes over #9.
The top rear of the mag, where it touches the case rim, is ~.015 narrower than any other mag. The round doesn't ride high enough for the bolt to make contact. There's enough spring tension with a full mag, to overcome.

Easiest way to figure it out, is to manually cycle rounds, until it jams.
Easy to remove the firing pin if it makes you feel better.
When it jams, you can watch it happen, and hopefully see the problem.

Thanks for the info and advice and sorry for hijacking your great thread, I didn't know where else to go. :)

I took some off the top of 4 mags (I will do them all and clean it up if it helps)

And now the neck does not hit the mag

On 2 of the 4 I also got rid of most of the dimple that was catching on the extraction groove.
The rounds sure come out of these ones smooth now with the finger, I don't have the rifle here to try cycling manually but hopefully I will have some time on the weekend to try it out.

Have a good weekend

Revival ;)

Round count hasn't gone up too much. I didn't shoot the rifle all of last hunting season, then I bought a new .308 bolt gun, so the XCR is being neglected a little.

I haven't added it up lately, but somewhere around 14,000 rounds. No further reports on anything, other than pew pew pew. The last breakdown was the hammer spring, everything else is still doing what it should.

I shot 2 group at around 12,000 rounds, using Fusion, for 1.7" followed by 1.75" @ 100.

I'll take some more pics at 15,000, and post 'em for anyone interested. Internally, it's starting to show it's age. Nothing bad, just some earned wear.

To get my two cents in. I'm the outcast with the XCR-M in .308 and I love this thing. Mag dumps. Attempted quick changes which I fail at. This things a tank. Bought it used on EE (traded my SL8) and never looked back.

I've got 1000 rounds down give or take with no failures. Not a huge fan of the stock though.
