XCR 7.62x39 reliability reports?

ummm, why wouldn't you try better ammo before monkeying with the rifle? poor ammunition may be the problem... it would probably be wiser and cheaper to swap the ammo for something a bit better quality.

The main thing that leads me to believe it's the rifle and not the ammo is that even shooting crap it should be ejecting the casings a good 10-15ft away, instead of just landing right beside me.
We'll see i guess.

Don't want to be a horse @$$ but you would have been better off getting an 858 if you wanted it in x39. This XCR only realy works well in 6.8 and alright in 223 but in 223 it's not that accurate.

Funny thing is the guy that posted those XCR malfunction video (Mr.Rigg on XCR forum) also posted these groupings with his 7.62x39 ;)

The extraction problem may have to do with the steel cased lacquer coated old milsurp ammunition. The XCR isn't built with the loose tolerances of an AK the chamber is probably too tight for the Combloc stuff.

I sent Tera a link to this thread I'm hoping if she gets it that she can share some of her insight for you.

RA needs to hire her back at double the pay and a medical package and they also need to give her a new XCR-L and the very first -M off the line and yes they would have to be cerakoted in pink...

:D

Tried the 858 and it didn't really do it for me. I love everything about the XCR... if I could just get it to work as it should.

I'm pretty sure the idea behind these bad boys and thier quick caliber change was for use by SF guys in the standbox, due to the abundance of x39 everywhere. So i would think at least in principle, these rifles should be designed to fire the crap combloc stuff... hence the idea of the adjustable gas setting. It may just take some tweeking.

@ what ten yards away?
I have been there helpping a verry good friend of mine doing slow fire shooting to see witch loads were best out of his x39 and the best he came up with was 2 & 3/4" at 100 meter's. Although the 6.8 kit he has was a very nice 1 & 1/4" firing a 5 round groups. The 223 from him shooting was always between 1 & 3/4" to 2 & 1/4". After all that I kept my AR & my CZ.

I've had the same issues. Wolverine needs to polish out the chamber and loosen the tolerances to make it function reliably. Good luck dealing with Robinson's customer service. It's the worst next to Para. Lots of lip service and zero action. Best to deal with Wolfgang at Wolverine - he's first class.

Don't worry you will never have to deal with the RA customer service directly Wolverine/Wolfgang will take care of all of your needs.

Me too basically 210 down the drain for something they say goes bang every time. Stovepipe, stovepipe, stovepipe. The laquer on a spotless chamber sticks and sucks. The ammo is sever thou out between rounds and the stuff is corrosive. Its garbage ammo. It won't even shoot out of my sks. I have 900 rounds waiting for someone with a vs58 to take it off my hands as it will fire through that but not a russsian yugo or chinese sks with any sort of reliablility. Only the aklones will it fire off. (If norks ar m4orgeries than vzs are aklones).

what? your kidding me right? a norc m4 is a clone because it is a damn m4 minus some colt markings, a VZ is entirely different from an ak, only thing they share the caliber.

Terra sent me a PM with a bunch of stuff to check (thanks again camp cook). I also got an email back from "tech" at RA that included this:

"We sent a lot of 7.62x39mm rifles to Canada with a .073" to .076" gas port. Some low pressured ammo doesn't cycle with the port at that size. One can go up to .082 to .086if you use a drill bit, be careful that you don't hit the other side of the barrel."

I'm no gunsmith but If i had to guess i think this may be the culprit. Anyway, i took it to the shop i got it from, they're going to talk with wolverine and deal with it.

No probs with my x39 XCR, followed break-in on # 4. lubed up it'll work 100% on #2, and i usually shoot it on #1 (the odd round will not eject) so the brass doesn't fly for miles. shoots sub 3" 10 shot groups at 100m, with some hovering around the 2" mark, all this with chzech surplus. does a little better with Win WB and Rem sp and runs 100% on #1 setting. YMMV
