Hello,

I bought an XCR last summer, and today I got a problem that I have never seen with it before...

I was cleaning the rifle, so I removed the entire bolt.

After 10 minutes of cleaning the bolt/gas piston/etc, I took the upper receiver to clean it too and noticed that the entire charging handle (not only the knob, but the whole thing) was totally JAMMED. I started by putting on some oil to fix it up, but it is really stuck! I can't move the charging handle at all! I looked carefully inside of it, I couldn't see any pieces that were blocking it.

Here's the first part of the problem.

The second is my fault. (Maybe the first on too, but I REALLY don't know what might have happen, honestly. That's why I'm kind of scared right now. I loved this rifle, but right now, it is NS)

I tried to remove the bolt knob, to after remove the charging handle completly (the whole part, the one that's jammed) but I BROKE the little pin holding it!! So I can't put on my bolt knob on!

Do you have any solutions for me?

Thanks a lot, and I'm waiting for your news.

Xavier

I'm not sure I'm reading this right.

"Removed the entire bolt", the bolt comes out in 2 seconds, so I'm wondering, because of your emphasis, was it difficult to remove?

The charge handle, which is also your forward assist, is simply a sliding bar trapped in a channel. Is there something stuck underneath it?
Is is stuck forward, back, or somewhere in between?
You're saying it's stuck in an empty upper, yes? Is the forward detent stuck? Something trapped between the charger and the ejector? They're quite close to each other.
Any chance of posting pictures of inside the upper?

The roll pin holding the handle to the charging bar is what broke? It's just a roll pin and could be found at a hardware store. Take what's left of the old, for a match up. When you're there, but a roll pin punch, so you don't damage on install.

More info please, I'm sure we'll figure this out.

Funny that you broke it. My buddy used to own an XCR-M and when he was handloading for it he messed up with the sizer or something and was having rounds stick in the chamber, I watched him take a 2x4 to his rifle and beat the charge handle to clear the round. It bent the handle back but he got the round out and it still worked the rest of the day on different ammo.

I kinda get the feeling you need to put some effort into understanding the opreration of your firearm, removing the entire bolt is not a big deal and should have taken all of about 4 seconds.
The charge handle jammed? That's just weird and really shouldn't happen unless it's corroded or something which really shouldn't happen unless the finish is worn off the rifle or it was put away really dirty after shooting corrosive ammo.

Do you have any friends that are more experienced with this style of rifle who could help you?
No matter what you end up needing to fix it don't worry, Wolverine Supplies will take care of you.

Hi guys,

First, thanks all for your answers.

I disassembled all the upper receiver and definitively, its the charging slide that is bent. It has no sign of corrosion (and I shoot .223 handloads) or no unusual wear. It's just slightly bent and I feel that the rail on the upper receiver doesn't tolerate enough bent.

When you remove the bolt assembly, those who have a XCR will know, the charging slide is "free" and it can moves toward and backward has it want. When it's moved completly backward, there's about 2 inches of the slide that is hanging "out" of the upper receiver. I think that I have dropped the upper receiver while cleaning it, and unfortunately, the slide was "out" of the upper receiver, so those 2 inch first hit the floor and bent. (That's what I think)

I have picture but honestly we cannot see anything wrong on them.

I contacted Wolverine, and they figured out to provide me the spare parts.

You "think" you dropped it? For people to help you, you need to be honest, if you dropped it, you dropped it.

Excuse me guys, but is that a toy rifle you are talking about, so it breaks after you drop it (or part of it) ?

A toy, no. I can't speak for anyone else's XCR, but mine has proven to be built good and proper.
My worst accident left my rifle 12' below me, landed on rocks, resting in 2' of fast flowing river. Took me hours to recover. Don't ask.
Not a scratch.
I suspect Mr op may have more to do with the broken part, than dropping if. ;)

I did the exact same thing with my XCR-M. Had my upper off while cleaning and it fell and the charging handle bent. It is a fairly easy fix though. You'll have to take the whole charging handle off which can be difficult but use force. Once it is off you have to flatten it. I had a friend help me out and not sure what he did but he managed to bring it back to me the next day flat enough to slide back in.

I did end up order a new charge handle from Robinson Arms. I ordered the part off their site and they weren't sure if it was ITAR or not so they asked Robinson himself. I don't know if they ever figured out the answer but just put it in an envelope and it showed up in my mailbox, didn't even have to pay shipping. I never ended up installing the new charge handle from them since my fixed one was working and then I ended up getting the keymod upper which came with another charge handle.

If you can manage to flatten out your charge handle you'll be fine. Sounds like wolverine has sent you the parts but you could always get them from Robinson or if you really need I still have my spare somewhere.

Yes I ordered the parts from Wolverine, I should receive them this week. I tried to flatten it too but never managed to get a good result. I can't wait to fix my rifle!!

I watched the owner of Robinson arms clear a jam on an xcr-l by slamming the butt on the ground. This using the bolt inertia to pull the stuck round out of the chamber. When it happened to me while breaking mine in, it worked perfectly. I wouldnt be jamming on the charging handle Just my opinion.
