XCR Breakin

I tried to drop my M to 3 after about 100 rounds, and got the odd FTE. It ran perfect on 4. I assume all this talk of lower gas settings right off the bat only apply to the L?????

I'm going out for round 2 today, and will see if I can get the gun to run reliably on 3 after a little more break in. I'll report in after I get back from the range.

Please do... I had the same with my M and have just dropped it to 3 but haven't been out yet... 100 down the pipe

Am I the only one of the opinion that a 2000$ or more black rifle shouldn't need a break in period pissing around with gas settings and allotments of ammo? If I cant put a mag into a new rifle and pull the trigger without screwing around with it, I lose a lot of interest in the rifle.

My new $35k jeep had a break in period:eek: It still worked as a jeep should, I just couldn't ride the rev limiter for a month.

i think u mean fooling around with the gas setting during breakin period. I agree when i perchased my colt ar hb in the 80s manual did not mention break in although it had a crome bore maybe crome lining nagated the need to breakin.

Ok so I put a mag in it and shoot, That's why I got mine. and the 3 seconds it takes to press the detent and turn the gas valve , well yeah it's a lot of pissing around. My sks x39 has no gas valve to adjust and has never had a ftf but it's not as kool as the xcr-m.

My 2014 Triumph Tiger 800 XC, which cost me considerably more than my XCR, had a1000 km break in period. RPMs had to be kept down and constant speeds avoided. You know how hard that was to maintain on a DS bike that will go 150KPH in a heartbeat? :D

All newly machined items should be given a time to seat in. This time is greatly diminished from the old days, but still required.

Just got back from the range. I put another 10 rounds through my XCR-M on setting 4, and then turned her down to 3 for another 20 rounds with no issues. At the 30 round mark, I tried setting 2 and had an FTE on the first round. Turned it back to 3 and shot another 20 rounds without any troubles.

I guess I'll stick with setting 3 for the next 50-100 rounds and see if I can get down to 2 full-time.

I had the same issue yesterday although it was - 27*. I think the M's need more gas to get rid of the longer heavier case.

You wouldn't fare well with performance sports cars, brother. I fail to see how $$$ invested should equate to less maintenance or break in?????

Every gun going breaks in! Even bolt, lever and pump guns smooth out and work better after a nice break in.

For sure but my XCR-M didn't cycle properly in any setting but the 4 until i fired about 400 rds. Was pretty pissed at the time.

Never again....

I wonder what the difference the gas system is on a M compared to a L. Ie. the piston size and the diameter of the hole in the gas plug.

Because the way it seems, you guys are running on 3 or higher when on an L most guys are running on 1 or 2. Just a weird thought I guess haha I love my L but I really wanna shoot a M so bad!
