XCR: Inconsistent Ejection

Grease is generally better at staying on the bearing surfaces, but will attract and retain grit and crap as well.
Oil on the other hand tends to flow away from the bearing surfaces over time and use, but the trade off is that it takes that grit and crap with it.
Oil is great for extended field or dirty use, but grease may provide better protection for range use.
I have had the exact opposite experience.

While high temp bearing grease does collect crap, it stays slippery and stays in place. I have found that grease encapsulated dirt and metal debris casues less wear than oil that runs dry and leaves bare surfaces. Oil does not encapsulate debris, effectivly turing it into sandpaper.

I don't run oil on my gun at all any more. I use grease everywhere and have yet to have a single failure on almost 10,000 rounds in some really dirty conditions (sand, snow and mud).

We had an XCR at the last course that had the same issues, but I didn't get any details or insight into what was causing the problem.

I think that since most of us up here north of the 49th parallel aren't running 5.56 spec ammo, we should be running on gas setting 3. I will test mine out on two and three when I get home. gas setting four launches the brass into the next area code

I'd never use grease on an AR or other "assault" rifle -- you can easily add more CLP at any time -- try adding more grease in field conditions...
- worthless point which adds nothing to the XCR topic.

For the XCR - try 3

Hey KevinB, on my AR ive been using TW25 grease on the bolt and the top of the carrier. Seems to stop carbon building up. Use CLP everywhere else. Never had a jam or extraction issue. Will I have problems if I keep using the grease on the bolt? Prior to using grease I clean all parts with CLP then apply light film layer on the bolt and pin shaft and extractor face. CLP on sides of carrier and top areas. Is this way wrong?

If you guys are so worried about grease and oild collecting dust and debris, run dry lube.

I switched over to graphite powder a year ago and will never look back.

Stay away from dry lubes -- we tried them in Afghan -- worked okay for a bit -- but any high volume firing and they seize.
Graphite -- BAD - it siezed up the GPMG's and LMG's -- and eventually gummed the C8's

Kevins is right just keep it lubed and no problems . CLP works great in but grease is best left to the SIGS

I am taking it out again tonight, and I brought my wrench this time so I can adjust the gas setting if I need to. Also got it lubed better this time! So we'll see how things turn out.

Now a request: Can some other XCR owners please post a couple pics of the insides of their uppers and their round counts?

Hey qyv- I just took my xcr out, it kinda ran poopy on gas setting 2. I changed it back to three and it was better, but still not like I wanted (except for 5.56 q3131a, ran like a champ on 3)

I put it back on 4, and runs flawlessyly again, and the recoil isn't much different. #### it, I will keep it on 4.

I will get some pics for you soon dude, as I have been uber busy playing with another toy, a gsxr 750

Cheers dude

This is why I tell people to wait a few years before buying new american rifles, the first owners always get stuck finding out all the quirks with the rifles allowing future owners to make a more informed purchase. Hope you work it out!

Funny, I've got myself one of those sevenfidy's myself!

Just a note on my XCR: I have been talking with RobArm about the issues, I will post an update shortly.

Ya, I got a complete new upper, and the CBSA raped it. :p

Seriously though, the old upper had a problem with a bur on the bolt carrier, which was causing the weird marking and maybe causing the ejection issue.

So Robarms supplied you with a whole new upper? Why not replace just the bolt??

How many rounds do you have through it now? Is it reliable?

The bolt carrier had scared up the inside of the upper, so they replaced the carrier and the upper.

Haven't put many rounds through it yet due to the whole CBSA thing. But when I put my old BUIS onto the new upper, I didn't need to rezero them ;)
