XCR-L out of battery discharge

I just stripped the gun down now, the barrel is free of obstruction. There are a few grains of burnt powder in the breech, chamber and down the bore. No other material, the barrel appears to be in perfect condition.

Im just catching up on this thread for the first time and I have to say Im a little spooked. I bought an early gen one off the ee in .223 but didnt like the accuracy. Friends with more recent xcrs had very good accuracy so i gambled with doubling down on the conversion kits (new bolt assembly and barrel). Gun shoots great now and Im happy overall.

I am spooked because i bought two cases of win white box. Am i cool or is this going to blow up in my face? Why is there no recall on the ammo or the rifle?

Just use different factory ammo. Sell what you have.
Problem solved.

Gents this type of thing happens with all kinds of firearms. Just really unlucky that the stars were all aligned for this to happen. No need to fear brand X rifle because of it. How many " AR Exploded" or " My handgun exploded" videos are out there on youtube? You will find that crazy things sometimes happen with any firearm, hence always have eyes and ears on at the range.

How many in spec ammo and rifles explode. It is one thing if you f up a handload but factory ammo in afactory rifle doesnt sit right with me.

I dont want to make this a ##### session. Im still not clear on what design changes were made to resolve this from gen 1 to gen two? I dont even know of my conversion kit is gen two.

You'd be surprised how many KB's have been caused by factory ammo, especially recently with production at it's maximum.

Interesting. Seems like not a very wise design feature. :/

Not sure I understand your post but the XCR has a firing pin spring where the AR doesn't.

I have always had firing pin strikes on primers with an AR, never with an XCR although mine is new and I haven't had it long, may have missed the fine strike mark.

So I guess it's a slam fire in battery with the AR or a OOBie with a XCR and stuck firing pin? Not sure how a pin can hang with an opposing spring.

My understanding is military semi rifles have hard striking pins and military ammo has hard primers. Take that hard striking pin and civie ammo and I could see some issue eventually.

If a 'slam-fire' happens in an AR (lets say due to soft primers and the firing pin hitting it from inertia) the bolt is locked anyway so the bullet goes downrange (cuz that's where you had it pointed...right? ;) )and despite being surprised, all is well. On an AR15 the firing pin can not physically touch the primer until after the bolt is fully rotated/locked.

It seems that in an XCR, since there is nothing mechanically stopping the firing pin from being able to ignite a primer before lockup (aside from a spring), if the firing pin happens to get stuck forward (let's say a build up of carbon?), your gun might explode. I'm not sure if it's possible for the hammer to ride the pin forward and cause the same result in an XCR?

Which isn't to say an AR15 can't blow up. A case head separation can cause that even if the bolt is fully locked.
