XCR-M optics help

A 1-4 suits it nicely.
I had an swfa 1-4 mounted on mine. Used it from 25 to 600 yards.

Also tried a vortex pst 4-16, but it just made the rifle heavier, more cumbersome, made it slow to use for "carbine" drills, and didn't really tighten up the groupings at long range compared to the 1-4.

With a 2 moa red dot, I found the ability to get a good target id somewhat lacking.

1-4 for the win.

I have the FFP with EBR1. It is just visible in bright light at 1 times not as bright as a dedicated red dot but is usable. It is very visible at 6.5 times.

At 1 times it is equivalent to a .5moa dot surrounded by a 12moa or so donut.

I find the glass to be good and have no complaints. The turrets are milliradians and have caps. I only plan to use windage and use the BDC for drop.

THe SFP version would be equivalent to a 3moa dot surrounded by a 70moa donut. However, I'd go with the BTR2 reticle in the SFP.

The falcon optical quality is worth about what you pay for it.
I've had three of the 4-14's in the past, I wouldn't buy another unless I was on a really tight budget.
For the xcr-m, it's more magnification than you need, leaving little close range capability, it's not a precision rifle by any stretch of the imagination... and besides, a quality piece of glass at 9x lets you see more than the falcon at 14x.

Pretty low grade glass, the illumination washes out in the sunlight, comparable in overall quality to a millet 1-4.

The vortex pst 1-4 is about as low as I'd go price wise vs quality in 1-4's. They also come with a mil turret and mil reticle.
Stay away from ballistic drop compensated reticles, they'll only ever be "close" accuracy wise. Some are way out once you factor in the atmospherics and your particular projectile weight and velocity.

Next step up at $700 is the swfa 1-4, which has excellent glass, a ffp mil reticle, mil turrets, daylight bright illumination, and durable construction.
It's better than most 1-4's costing twice as much, but availability is an issue, you have to import them as swfa doesn't export them.

The trijicon 1-4 is around $1000, glass is good, but it has a strange "fish eye" effect, and the reticle options suck badly.

Next at $1000 is the swfa 1-6, has all the winning features of the 1-4, but they're unobtanium right now unless you preordered and imported one a while ago.

Past that there's a few more, but if I were going more than a $1000, I'd go straight to the s&b short dot or the swarovski 1-6. In for a penny in for a pound, lol !
But at least you'd have good resale value.

I have the FFP pst 4x16 on my XCR L. Works great, ring gongs and turn gophers to mist out to 1000. For the M, I was thinking something similar. I don't find it any heavier with scope, for up close and personal use irons.

The Leupold VX-6 1-6x is great for quick target acquisition. Wide FOV and very pleasant to use left eye open or closed. Better than my VX-3's by a large margin.
